Too many songs and the idea proceeds the execution imo. I also feel like inherently you’re alienating two different groups e.g. traditional black folks because it’s too country and white folks because it’s Beyonce doing country
I don't think the album really did anything wrong tbh.
It was a bit bloated but the overall musical highs and thematic cohesion make up for it.
At the end of the day, the album was highly acclaimed, won AOTY, had a number 1 hit, went Plat, sparked a huge tour, helped Shaboozey's career, and showcased her versatility.
Just not sure what more Bey could've done here other than provide music videos.
Has some really amazing songs tbh
Personally, I think it wasnt really country enough.
When news of this dropped I thought we was getting 12 daddy lessons-tier songs & 16 Carriages had me hype asf.
Then Texas hold em dropped
I think the album tried to please too many ppl and ended up kinda not pleasing everyone completely. Jolene shoulda stayed on the floor, needed more bodyguard, alligator tears, and most wanted type of joints
BLACKBIRD was terrible too honestly lol
The covers added nothing to the album tbh

I think it’s safe to say in comparison to Act 1 that Cowboy Carter hasnt left the long lasting impression folks mighta been hoping for.
Where do you think went wrong? Was it too bloated? Was it a victim of not reading the room going “we aint tryna hear that rn Sharif.” Was it between a rock and a hard place not going fully in one direction over the other? Did Beyonce’s “carti-esque” mentality about this era not help its longevity?
(If you are a fan you can disagree say what you liked about it)
And does this make you worry about Act 3?
The answer is very simple: Beyoncé’s fanbase overall does not like country music, and white non-Beyoncé fans do not want to hear a black woman making country music
saying "it's not country enough" kind of misses the whole point of the project, it's a beyonce country album not a country album by beyonce
The album is decent. A little bloated and scattershot in some places but I think it's generally a good project
Definitely not fully country Bey, a full tape of DADDY LESSONS/16 CARRIAGES/ALLIGATOR TEARS/LEVI'S JEANS, (yeah I know) tier songs would've been real nice
Levi Jeans still enters my head from time to time that song is a vibe
horrible time to do a pro america gimmick in this climate
This is the only issue I have with it, and even then the actual album isn’t even pro-America, just the aesthetics are, but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth
Otherwise it’s a great album though. Couple songs could go but it’s a really beautiful walk through the genre with her with some great feats. It outsold Ren too so idk what you mean by “went wrong” (ren 90x better to me though let me be clear)
i have a theory that MOST too long albums have an amazing shorter 10-track album inside them.
Cowboy Carter is one of these albums.

I don’t know why she thought a country album was a good idea. Especially after we had to go through first term maga. Second term maga is making it age even worse. Country album by Beyoncé while draping the American flag was the last thing I wanted to hear
Tbh she could’ve taken off spaghetti, Levi’s jeans, Texas hold em, and sweet honey buckin

it isn't pro america period, the aesthetics are a red herring, some of y'all need to consume more art fr
