People always claim that Drake was at his commercial peak in 2016, but The Scorpion era singles spent a longer amount of time at the #1 spot on the Billboard 100 plus the Scorpion LP has more streams in total. Which era was Drake at his commercial peak?
That's hard because scorpion had the most number 1 hits but Views was his most anticipated album.
Views
Views was crazy man, it was a school night in the uk and people were having listening parties and staying up till 6am. Followed by going to buy the cd when HMV opened at 9am instead of going into school. Scorpion did more numbers wise in streaming but Views everyone seemed to tune in to
The anticipation buildup of Views was incomparable. The anticipation intensified when “Views from the 6” which ended up being u with me track leaked . Good times
If the rollout had not been an Apple exclusive, then Views undoubtedly would be considered his commercial peak. Did a mil first week in the US when you could only stream the album on Apple Music and download on iTunes. If there had been a music video for One Dance that would’ve also helped solidify it.
Feel like Views was bigger considering people still went out to buy physical copies and on iTunes
scorpion did better in the long run but views did better when it dropped selling 1 mill first week and charting at number 1 for 13 weeks
I think part of the reason Scorpion did so well to produce so many hits though was because numerous songs got music vids, God’s Plan, I’m Upset, Nice For What, In My Feelings and Nonstop. Literally did a full 180 promotion wise between Views and Scorpion.
Scorpion era easily. Especially if you consider his feature run during that era
I think part of the reason Scorpion did so well to produce so many hits though was because numerous songs got music vids, God’s Plan, I’m Upset, Nice For What, In My Feelings and Nonstop. Literally did a full 180 promotion wise between Views and Scorpion.
Underrated post
1mil first week (852k pure)
6x platinum to date (4x platinum in first 6 months)
732k first week (160k pure)
5x platinum to date (5x platinum in first 6 months)
I would have to say the VIEWS era for sure.
To me, that was Drake's 2008 version of Lil Wayne during Tha Carter 3 era.
scorp
look alive ruled the streets , nice for what ruled the radio , sicko mode ruled the internet
1mil first week (852k pure)
6x platinum to date (4x platinum in first 6 months)
732k first week (160k pure)
5x platinum to date (5x platinum in first 6 months)
scorpion may have surpassed views in total sales, I'm not sure how many units views sold all time
I think part of the reason Scorpion did so well to produce so many hits though was because numerous songs got music vids, God’s Plan, I’m Upset, Nice For What, In My Feelings and Nonstop. Literally did a full 180 promotion wise between Views and Scorpion.
Why the f*** did he not do a vid for one dance or controlla?
Based on my research, Scorpion and Views eras are neck and neck commercially but Views (slightly) edges out Scorpion because of One Dance and Work
Hotline Bling reached 4x platinum in its first 4 months of charting while God’s Plan reached 7x platinum in its first 3 months of charting
rap was still not treated fairly on the charts yet in 2016
definitely Views
