Not sure we will ever see another artist have a 2018 Drake type year

  • Mar 31, 2022

    Views. Whole era was amazing.

Scoprion concert is still my fav concert ever of all time tho

doing 54 shows on both the views tour and scorpion tour drake grossed $100 million on the scorp tour and $84.3 million on the views tour (both the highest for rap tours at their time and currently 2 & 3 behind beyonce and Jay-Zs tour)

Don’t even get started with that 2018 feature run too… Sicko Mode, Look Alive, Yes Indeed, Walk It Talk It, Going Bad, Never Recover, No Stylist, MIA, Bigger Than You, etc.

I remember any time I went to a party or club that year, every third song was a Drake song.

2016 took Drake from a rapper to a superstar, and 2018 took him from superstar to GOAT discussions.

We reckon he’ll ever have a bigger year than 2016 or 2018?

    We won't.

He likely won't but he doesn't need to have another year like 2016/2018 again. Now he has the back catalog to keep doing massive numbers every year whether or not he drops music and I imagine that was always the end goal for him.

Scorpion statistically but Views hype was unmatched to me

  • Apr 1, 2022

Views era had me screaming VIEWS at the top of my lungs at random times in crowded areas throughout the day in college.

    Era was something else.

Views sold a milli first week which is more legendary than having 3 #1 singles. 600k people bought the album on the first day before they even listened to it

Didnt Views do crazy sales numbers. Scorpion definitely had more hits but in terms of commercial success, Views became a thing of its own. The album cover started a whole meme trend the day it was revealed

Its a toss-up though because Drake had so many songs doing well during Scorpion era but the beef definitely overshadowed the era too

I think part of the reason Scorpion did so well to produce so many hits though was because numerous songs got music vids, God’s Plan, I’m Upset, Nice For What, In My Feelings and Nonstop. Literally did a full 180 promotion wise between Views and Scorpion.

But those songs were actually hit worthy. Views didn’t have as many single worthy songs

Scorpion era easily. Especially if you consider his feature run during that era

    Agreed

I kinda think CLB would be on scorpion level if the pandemic didn’t change how everyone dropped music. A lot of people don’t realize how crazy drakes 2021 was without him promoting or touring. CLB had 9 songs chart top 10. The album is still doing 31k a week 8 months later. Imagine if he was touring it would be doing 40-50k a week. He did 613k with no single and a 1 week notice. I easily think CLB would’ve did scorpion numbers if we weren’t in a pandemic. His 2021 features were insane too. I feel like his next era could top his 2016 and 2018. 2021 would’ve if we weren’t in a pandemic.

Songs like Controlla, Too Good and Child’s Play could’ve been bigger if they’d been given the push. The success of One Dance always baffled me tho as that song had no music video, literally just streams and the radio made that song as big as it was.

Despite me thinking Views was his commercial peak, I’ve always felt like there was more to give with the Views-era, never reached its full potential.

I like scorpion cuz he was running s*** all year long. He started with look alive and didn’t let his foot off the gas. No complaints was one of my favs that year too

Controlla yes. Child’s play did not have hit potential IMO. Good album cut though.

Non Stop, in my feelings, gods plan, and Nice For What were all major hits with hit quality sound.

I find it crazy that 2018 featured the Pusha beef and yet he still went on to smash records and run the rest of the year like he was unstoppable.
