they were neck and neck but they just seem different because how people consumed media was different imo
rap was still not treated fairly on the charts yet in 2016
definitely Views
this 100% it's amazing how much of a difference 2 yrs made
I stand by 2018 being one of the biggest years for any rapper ever for Drake… Right there with 2003 50 cent and 2008 Lil Wayne
He ran the charts with SOOO many hits and features from start to end. Beginning with Gods Plan and ending with Going Bad
2016 comes close but I just don’t think he had the consistency of nonstop hits throughout the 2nd half of the year
I genuinely think people only underrate 2018 because of the beef
Scorpion era easily. Especially if you consider his feature run during that era
That feature run was insane
Views was #1 for 13 weeks.
Views is still his best-selling album and best-charting album but in terms of entire era, Scorpion easily takes it. Plus the Scorpion era is the biggest era any rapper has ever had on the Billboard charts statistically.
If the rollout had not been an Apple exclusive, then Views undoubtedly would be considered his commercial peak. Did a mil first week in the US when you could only stream the album on Apple Music and download on iTunes. If there had been a music video for One Dance that would’ve also helped solidify it.
That exclusivity helped it IMO - I don't think it would've done a milli first week if not for it being exclusive. Those 800k pure sales (!!) were because non-AM subscribers had no other choice but to purchase
Kinda off topic but i’ll always wonder if Drake would’ve pushed for a 5th #1 single off Scorpion if IMF challenge didn’t block Nonstop from going #1 in that first week.
He would’ve been at 4 #1’s off one album, would’ve made sense to push another single and try to tie with Thriller and Teenage Dream

It’s actually mad how he topped Views like that. Despite the polarizing opinions of the album, just to best the stats he had with that album.

Yep. That 2016-2018 run was something else.

Doubt he would have cared. Drake doesn't really keep up with stats/records the way we do lol.

True. It was a very smart and timely strategy because he eventually got streams from Spotify other streaming platforms 2 weeks later but by then, he'd secured the pure sales he needed to give the album a solid start.
Why the f*** did he not do a vid for one dance or controlla?
Baffled me at the time n it still does
One Dance music vid would easily be clear of a billion views by now.
Definitely Scorpion. That's when I started hearing people IRL having convos comparing him to Michael Jackson.
Views just felt more special to me, you could feel that album was special to drake too. It was his senior album
Scorpion for sure. You couldn’t go anywhere for a long time without hearing something off it in all aspects of your life. Nice for what dominating radio, Gods plan dominating radio but also something people who played their own music were blasting religiously, nonstop in every sports timeout and in the gym, in my feelings on all social media and bc the craze, in commercials and in websites think pieces and on nightly news too. Scorpion was everywhere at all times

2018 is Drake's greatest year in my honest opinion
Scorpion for Sicko Mode alone that song destroyed that year when it dropped and that was in August too
In 2018 alone he dropped
Look alive
Sicko mode
In my feelings
Nice for what
God's plan
Duppy
I'm upset
That aint even it either smh I mean goddamn views was nice but 2018 drake is basically 2013 lebron
