TLOP, but let's not forget that Kanye had Southside and Metro Boomin come in at the last minute to trim everything "futuristic" off the album. What we could've had

All that 'futuristic' s*** would have aged like milk

it’s even more alienating with Carti tbh

i was being called “the whitest black guy”, a school shooter, weirdo the whole nine yards for f***ing with punk rap and music in general, now niggas are punk fans cause of WLR

Wild because Punk was invented by black folks lol

It's hyperreality. The narrative is that black art has always been smooth, rhythmic, and/or soulful stuff, or that black folks built a "primitive" foundation for genres white artists would reappropriate for themselves later on (i.e. rock). When this erroneous narrative is consistently debunked by actual history, ignorant people resort to saying that a black person who enjoys intrinsically black music that isn't generally incorporated into the public narrative of what "black music" is, is considered "acting white" lol. As a West Indian guy I get a lot of the same thing because I don't enjoy listening to dancehall all the time because I find it repetitive and one dimensional even if I don't dislike it either and like plenty of it. They ignore the histories of Exuma, Bob Marley, the fact that the art of rapping was invented in Jamaica, and assume all Caribbean music is just tropical dance music about having sex. There's just a boatload of ignorant and unthinking people who can't do much of anything for themselves intellectually and need their realities crafted by people more powerful than them. It's weak ass s***.

Also happens when black folks enjoy EDM even though most of the most prominent electronic genres in history were invented by working class black people lmao, and country.

The guy is bi-polar and hanging around white conservative fascist.
See the difference between ye now and then. A lot of you guys have never dealt with ppl who are bipolar and don’t take medication. Look up Margot kidder or Nina Simone

How long are we honestly going to let a 46 year old man worth $400m get a pass for not appropriately treating his mental illness? I don't get this pass and I'm almost 20 years younger than him and worth like $10k lmao

Damn yeezus is a top 3 album ever for me but I'm a massive death grips stan. I wouldn't put tms or anything from them over it but I think death grips has like 4-6 masterpiece 10/10 albums still

Yeezus just isn't for me. I used to be a huge fan of it but as I got into more industrial/electronic music and experimental hip hop it just genuinely grew off me and this was even before the Nazi stuff. After the Nazi stuff I just don't listen to it at all anymore

Yeezus to me is more like unadulterated and distilled psychopath/mania in its heaviest form

The fashion stuff came off as societal criticism as a whole regarding race relations s*** to me too

It's just pure frustration and hateful, but has such good self reflection on joints too. Pure emotions with 0 filtering

I don't really care about what a fascist has to say about racism lmao, let alone a Nazi

I feel ya on that but yeezus did come out long before ye went nazi. Remember around yeezus releasing he was pushing super hard on reclaiming the Confederate flag/killing off the racism of it directly. The lyrics on yeezus are the exact opposite of what ye believes now

It didn't work, and these days hed probably fly the flag for what ita supposed to mean, but 10 years ago he was a completely different person

no not a pass cause he deserves the ridicule and critiscism but to be confused on how someone has changed so much from their early days and to think he wasn't genuine at that time is to look at things very surface level

I mean, I'd like to think that, but he's been on this tip since like 2002 apparently and has an anti-semitic mixtape from the mid-90s that he buried because he didn't want to jeopardize his early career. I don't think this was an overnight or even recent change. It may not have even been a change. And either way, there's just, to me, better executed examples of the sound Kanye was going for on that record

My favorite beat on TLOP is probably Saint Pablo but I respect that Astroworld was very ambitious in its own way. The diversity of TLOP is what sells the album for me however, as it's a kaleidoscope of the various sonic experiments Kanye's dabbled in over the years done in original ways. It's really cool

I don't find death grips that comparable at all personally, or dalek, or melt banana, utopia, or really anything that I see people compare to yeezus

I don't know him personally and can only go off of either his word or public narrative. He's never even attempted to rebuke the public narrative around his anti-semitism and fascism and has doubled down on supporting both. These claims moreover go back to the early 2000s, and in regards to his anti-semitism, the mid-90s. Dude has regularly come out and shown how insincere he is, he even stated as much when he said he wrote absolutely none of "Violent Crimes". He's just a talented charlatan. If y'all like him, cool, I literally never said you shouldn't or can't. I didn't even say he was bad. But just like I don't rock with Eminem even if his old stuff is good, I feel the same way toward Kanye, sans MBDTF and TLOP because they're well done and vastly more genuine exposes of who this guy really is and always was.

Like I said, when Kanye came out as a Nazi and we learned that his history of Nazism stretched back into the early 2000s and his anti-semitism into the mid-90s if not earlier, I truly grew off Kanye tremendously. I don't care about him anymore and I find a lot of his older material insincere and cynical knowing that he was a fascist while making it. It's still sonically pleasing but emotionally hollow for me because he's lying about his views on stuff on every album just so he could become a household name. The "real" Kanye only begins to come out in 2008 and he's lost his edge since 2018.
