He had the technical ability of an elite MC. Literally checked off all boxes. Flows, punchlines, stories, delivery, etc.

Not only that people actually cared about his skill set. I never witnessed a rapper make everyone pay attention to bars like Wayne did. Even the casual fan during that time was listening for bars bc Wayne was that interesting. He was that good at simply putting words together. I don’t have to get into the discussion about influence. Rapping about rapping or just talking s*** on the beat has always existed in rap but Wayne made it where you had to have a verse full of clever s*** to say no matter what you rapping about. Cole and Sean come from that era. They verses full of just witty lines even on love records bc of Wayne

The melodic trap sound partially comes from him. It’s not just bc the autotune but the content. T Pain is the goat but Wayne was using rap subject matter with the autotune so he brought a different feeling with it. Rappers weren’t causally just on some gangsta s*** with the autotune. His style was so fresh that he was untouchable. Old heads couldn’t dismiss him as a bum rapper and they couldn’t use autotune. His peers couldn’t keep up with his ability as a pure artist

Hov, Em, Kanye all had to give him his props and his peers fw him too look at the feats he had during his run. He was left field and was poppin among all types of circles at the same time. Outkast and Kanye didn’t even have that type of pull. Wayne was everyone’s favorite rapper all while doing some s*** no one seen before
