So i recently moved into a new apartment and held off on buying a new TV for a while. Now seems to be the right time but i'm conflicted.
I want to go for a flagship OLED but as you know, they are quite expensive.

I was pretty sold on the LG G3 up until i heard about the A95L and saw a vid comparing the two with the clear visual enhancements from the Sony TV from the XR-clear AI chip and the amazing color accurate performance and great QD-OLED brightness and contrast.

Another difference, and this really pushed me over the edge, is that the sound of the Sony is so good that you don't need a seperate (1000 euro) soundbar, whereas the LG G3 one is said to have really poor sound. So considering additional costs for that... i find the Sony compelling.

I'm quite sold on the Sony now, the only downside is, i live in the Netherlands and the 55" goes for no less than 3700 euros. The MSRP was like 2800 dollars (which would still be a lot but doable).

The LG on the other hand goes for 1700 euros. The difference in price is huge but so is the picture and sound quality imo.

My salary is nowhere near enough to pay for the Sony right now, not even on Black Friday (which isn't really a huge thing here).

So my question is... do i hold out a few months more and gather the funds to get the Sony or do i buy the LG G3 right away? I reckon the price of the Sony will drop to its MSRP pricing come february.

I know the G3 is just an OLED, the other QD-OLED flagship being from Samsung: the S95C. I haven't watched that one enough yet to decide between the LG and it. But they don't seem too far apart, neither in price or quality.

I live in an apartment with a medium sized living room.
The window i have is from floor to ceiling and it covers the entire width of the room, i do have curtains to dim the room. So with the curtainwall open its a very very brightly lit room facing the morning and early afternoon sun (so east-south).

I'd appreciate any help or if you wanna share your thoughts.

My nigga let’s help you. What video did you watch? From my experience (only reviews) the image quality amongst these 3 is quite similar after calibration. Me for e.g would probably go with the Samsung because of the one connect box. They must have a patent or something because til this day I do t understand why every manufacturer don’t have that. When it comes to sound I’ll always say that TV sound is nothing I rate at all so won’t say anything about that.

great point, the one connect box does make the setup look way cleaner… but that doesn’t push me over the edge just yet

Like i said ive watched a couple of youtube reviews and comparisons i couldnt tell you which ones, but they were def the most popular ones

And it was a big difference between Spny and the rest is all i can say. Yes even the sound was surprisingly good which i also don’t usually rate, but with an expensive TV you want good sound no?

You can read this review from rtings rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-a95k-oled-vs-lg-c3-oled/31217/37848?usage=1&threshold=0.10 they say that the Sony is slightly better. IMO that doesn’t warrant the extra price. You could instead buy the G3 and something else as well. I wouldn’t care if the TV came without sound even. I’ve had a sound system for as long as I can remember

id personally go for the sony

from what i remember they use the same panel, but sonys processing of colours/motion is a lot nicer/true to life compared to samsung.

the lg g3 uses a woled which is a little less brighter compared to the sony. but unless your tv is in a really bright room not sure you'd notice

Yeah the price difference is hard to justify but i do feel not having the need for a soundbar makes up for a lot. A TV without good sound is really not the same experience and i don’t have a sound system currently

A good soundbar would go for a minimum of 1000 euros for what i want.

Right that’s what i’m thinking too. And you’re gonna look at this screen for the next 5-10 years atleast, so why not get the best if there is a noticeable difference?

Should i wait til february? I feel since it just released the price drop during black friday will hardly be much

    Good points.

The weird thing is, i think this year the differences albeit subtle make a huge impact on the viewing experience imo. That AI enhancement chip does such a noticeable job for lower (streaming content) resolution and even bad quality 4K really shines through the comparison videos. And i don’t like the oversaturation of Samsung TV’s personally.

Sony has updated their gaming HUD and menu options for the first time and they offer all the customization options that the competition offers and more. The only thing is that it plays at 120hz but that is enough for me personally.

I’m gonna look at them side by side in a store soon to decide.

But i totally agree the pricing is quite ridiculous especially since their release they have skyrocketed over here.

I haven’t seen enough of the S95C. I’m curious to see the exact difference in quality.

Also im holding out on a soundbar system because i already have one in mind. Its quite expensive yet again but it has unique features. So i don’t want to have to invest in sound if i get a tv right away:

    Sony AT-H9 at 1999 dollars/euros

This is the specific comparison video i mentioned

I'd trust Rtings on anything related to monitors or TV's tbh. At least looking at their data they present

    rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/g3-oled

    rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/s95c-oled

They don't have the A95L up yet for a review tho

Indeed... I mean if you do someday get a smartphone that has Android so will it be even more useful but maybe so does some of your Google apps on your iPhone work on that Sony TV which would be good if it's possible

I hope so... I think that should happen between November 2023 - January 2024 or nothing later than early-mid 2024 hopefully.

Android TV supports Apple Airplay on certain platforms like Sony TVs

I’ve been looking at the A95L but yeah the price is steep and the burn in factor on Samsung QD-OLED panels like the one in the A95L or anything Samsung makes have some worrying signs

I use my computer hooked up to it though so burn in might not even be a problem for your uses

I’ve used a LG C9 for 4 years almost with no burn in

LG has been making TV sized OLED panels for a decade, Samsung is on their 2nd year

also the prices usually starts going down a couple months before they announce the next one

    Interesting

I guess I shouldn’t use this as a monitor or a 24h newscast lol. Wasn’t planning on it as i hate watching the news and have a monitor already, but yeah it does make you think, QD OLED doesn’t come without its flaws.

Thanks, this does make me weigh the pros and cons a bit more. In the case i won’t buy the Sony i would also be more inclined to get the LG over the Samsung now…

The real question is how likely would this occur in a normal usecase scenario… and after how many years?

Pricewise i do expect the Sony to drop a little earlier before the new model because the storeprice has been dramatically higher than the Sony pricing and that seems to come solely from it being new and in demand.

yeah it's hard to know for sure cause these TVs haven't been on the market for that long

but yeah unless you're playing the same game that has a HUD for 1000+ hours

I doubt you'd get much burn-in at least until it gets 20k+ hours of usage

also burn-in isn't just about having static images it's about the static images being there for long periods of time without different things being shown

like if you play the same game everyday for 2 hours but you also watch a few hours of TV your chance of burn-in is low because the pixels are being used for different things

burn-in happens when the panel gets stuck displaying something cause it knows nothing else

I say like the other guy. You seem to really want the Sony so go with it. I’ve been team LG for the longest, but I’ve switched to Samsung now
