Yes, rollout is promotion leading up to the album, a good rollout is not misleading and lying to your fans and causing drama for attention
A good rollout just means garnering the most attention. Rest of it don’t matter
Their lives are being controlled fr
Doesn’t matter: they have the “best” rollouts for fans. They know when to expect stuff. What type of content to expect. And it’s always on time
Kpop groups
They all drop promo calendars so you know when to expect stuff and teasers and merch and everything
Example
Impressive
It's not necessarily bout the end product here tho. Isn't it kinda boring to get a standard drop: announcement, single, album?
When the music is good you don’t need gimmicks
Only real music gonna last…
Weeknd number 1 for me.
man drops cinematic videos, interacts with fans
drops remixes and unique artwork
memento mori too that s*** always got me hyped whenever he played songs that inspired him

If that's your standards then Kanye by far is the most attention seeking mf in hip hop so he has the best rollout
I think it actually takes away from the album and when the album isn't good enough to justify the antics it's not worth it

This is true I was just thinking damn, their lives are so organized and uptight it sounds hard
Kanye, the live listening concerts were poorly executed at times, but are simply A1 in terms of rollout
A good rollout just means garnering the most attention. Rest of it don’t matter
Crazy how Kanye had everyone waiting after every LP for the album to drop only for it to randomly come out on Sunday morning.

A good rollout just means delivering on the music quality. Gathering attention won't matter if the end results meant nothing. Look what happened with Donda 2
But with art, especially performance art, it's not like it's always a clear message like "yo the meaning of life is 42" tho lol, and that's definitely not the case here for sure. There are interesting concepts as you say, but a lot of the times the purpose is to get you to think about those concepts from a different angle presented by the artist instead of telling you exactly what to think.
And yeah he called him the most successful performance artist, but he was being a bit provocative lol, in another video he said he meant successful specifically and not necessarily the greatest.
He goes more in depth here, his videos and reviews are very interesting in general tbh also about other artists, I really liked his review about Dawn FM
Fair enough, I get where you're coming from. Will check that video out another time though, that's over an hour. I guess my biggest issue with some of these points is with what you said "the purpose is to get you to think about those concepts from a different angle presented by the artist". I get that, but I doubt if that is the intention quite sometimes, that's what I meant with overcomplicating stuff. Thinking that way maybe confirms what you said, but I don't buy every single possible concept.

Lmk if you watched it
And yeah it's definitely true that in reality there is often no real way to know whether something is intentional or not unless the artist explicitly confirms it afterwards, but I would say that's the case even with non-performance art, just look at all the reaches on rap genius
Of course it's even more relevant here, but I think on a very surface level, that kind of would take some of the magic and excitement away from it imo, at least for me. And I also think verbalizing it could constrain your own interpretation in ways the artist wouldn't want to, but there's definitely a discussion to be had about that there.

This looks like hell lmao. I would say that the number 1 most important aspect of a rollout is the element of surprise and these people have their fans planning their whole month around "album teasers" . Like just drop the music at that point

Yeah I think some of its cope because Ye isn't planning everything out for us to get inside jokes about what he really wants us to think about. Some stuff he mentions like his slavery comments are on purpose but him showing his bulge on stream or his rants about his wife's boyfriend isn't performance art for the album rollout. That's a cry for help because he's off his meds and I think when we call it performance art its not getting him the help he needs. It's hard to tell what is and isn't meant to be significant
Foul
bro was trying to push back the album for more buzz but the stores were already selling it

But if the rollout AND music bad then you have nothing, like with the last album of the artist you're quoting

no one has good rollouts anymore
release a music video and drop the album along with a boo boo butter album cover.

Actually most people think it's great if you go outside. They support it in every city
