    I dunno

to me BIG's songs felt more flashy ''look at me'' type of s***

while pac could capture the feelings of his generations and managed to pass that on

one is more about skills while the other is more the ''weight of the pen''

Ready To Die was some rough s*** conceptually.

    true true

although with everything that happened LAD's concept felt deeper.

like the moment that the harsh reality hits and you have to face your maker

in the same way pac's all eyez on me felt too shallow for a dude like pac

BIG always had this cold and distant element about him. Whether it was intentional or not, he never broke that barrier between him and the listener. It's like you're listening to a character. Whereas with Pac you're listening to a human.

Btw Pac is the best songwriter in hip hop to me. His songs just sounded bigger and more memorable than everyone, they were structured perfectly imo. He had so much range. Appealed to everybody without compromising his artistry.

just the fact that a dude in his 20s could appeal to a 15yr old kid and a 50yr old og was crazy af

That's something Big and Jay share in common. Well, up until recently. Even in songs like "where have you been", which is relatable to so many, he still felt guarded in a sense.

Both BIG and Pac were very mature from a young age. So were Nas and Prodigy.

BIG could've been a great author and comedian.

Pac was the true character tho lol.

Only thing Pac had over BIG was passion. BIG was easily the better rapper and lyricist.

Pac was hella basic he just chose to rap about a broader spectrum of things. BIG showed he could rap about internal things. He just chose to go a certain route. He only had 2 projects. Thered no telling what he couldve grown into.

    Same for Pac.

A BUNCH of artists pour their hearts in their songs but appeal to certain age groups, demographics or whatever the f*** you wanna call it

    pac was a diff breed

you dont see that nowadays...fans label s*** ''old ass nigga s***'' or ''street s***'' or ''thot s***'' or whatever....there's no one that can capture everyone's voice

overall great album count, either kast or ye. honestly too hard to pick. if i’m factoring in their best works vs each other and their worst works vs each other i’d go kast though

I'm a bigger fan of BIG's music, if I'm being honest. Even though I'm Cali born and bred, I've always preferred East Coast Rap.

However, Pac's loss always seemed more significant. There's no telling what more he could've given the world.

I was just talking solely from a music perspective.

Pac was definitely a more important figure in the culture and in my life specifically.

    He was a huge loss.

true, but pre-idlewild they didn’t even kind of miss. plus it’s not like people hated idlewild and they broke up after. i sort of see idlewild as the “let it be” of hip hop, plus it’s a soundtrack so i just appreciate the good songs(mighty o, pj & rooster, hollywood divorce) than look at it as a real album

Pac sounded sincere to me, like he's wearing his heart on the sleeve. You can't have so much passion without putting yourself all out there. Biggie was all about creating a cinematic experience. Even when he did introspective songs it didn't feel like true vulnerability. He was a poker face type dude. Def an introvert.

And see, Pac was amazing for being able to simplify his craft like that. I see that as a strength. AEOM is the album where he admittedly dumbed it down but the songwriting is still brilliant. Then on 7 Day Theory he was back on his s***.. I see him as a lyrical rapper. He was a disciple of Ice Cube and Chuck D but it was also a case of the student surpassing his masters.

this is a great post that imo serves as a reminder that our environment/reality is definitely something that shapes our taste

in this day and age of online critics and pseudo-intellectuals we have to stay true to our upbringing and not be altered by the clusterfuck called the internet
