Eminem outsold everybody from 2000-2002. Drake couldn't even outsell Kendrick in 2017 and no "b-but it's a playlist" excuses would have been necessary for peak Eminem. If his name was attached to something, it was a smash success.
Em in 2002 had biggest hiphop album of all time, biggest hip-hop film of all time and biggest hiphop soundtrack of all time.
THE GOAT
Em and if you don't agree, you're absolutely delusion.
Honestly think 50 might have been bigger than Drake if we just comparing peak primes lol
Niggas really debating a legit once in a lifetime peak in any genre to some f***ing streaming records. Give me a break
A fair answer is that Drake wouldn't have done it in Em's era
Em couldn't do it in Drakes era
Drake. I don't think we'll ever see a hip-hop artist have as big of a year as Drake had in 2018
Go lose yourself man! Only "My Name Is" and "Lose Yourself" are bigger than the all Canadian artists' discographies
To fully understand why you are wrong I can recommend you to look into the top 10 most selling albums in 2000, 2001 and 2002 and compare it to the amount of albums sold by the top 10 in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
To fully understand you are wrong, 2000, 2001, 2002 were no streams, youtube, equivalent units and bullshit. See the "pure CD sales" that Em sold and then remove all "streaming equivalent units" off Drake's numbers (sales) and you will understand why Em is bigger.
Didnt The Eminem Show go double plat in a week?
it happened in under a week it dropped on like a tuesday or something
drake was bigger in a different way though but em was kind of bigger than music in a way no other hip hop artist has been

that trend with calling albums playlists was so weak i understand it as a concept but to be like “no it’s not an album it’s a playlist” is like when something gets marketed as an album then called a mixtape when it does under 100k first week
It's close but Drake tied MJ's record. Eminem struggled to do half in twice the time. And Drake is the highest certified artist by RIAA he passed Eminem about 5 years ago and the gap only got bigger since. Who's bigger is debatable but the longevity goes to Drake no doubt. Eminem also afraid to tour while Drake got the highest selling in rap history and that's without needing stadiums
i love drake but the success of songs released on streaming can’t be compared to songs 40 years ago. if thriller came out today it would’ve occupied the entire hot 100 top 10
Guy who's reading all this
This is a weird double standard
If someone posted a wall of text about Em would you read it?

yeah as someone who’s critical of drake sometimes people have a hate boner for him
2000-2002 Eminem, if you don’t think so, you are likely very young
This isn’t me saying one is better than the other, but Em was insanely large in that time frame
Eminem.
A better comparison would be 2003-2005 50 Cent vs 2016-2018 Drake. And I don’t even think he beats 50

Yeah 50 got it there too
We're in the era where every notable musician debuts at number 1 and he drops like two albums a year lol of course he's gunna break the record at that rate
We honestly need to stop trying to equate streams and sales. They do not translate
Views did 2.3 million in all of 2016
The Marshall Mathers LP did 3.65 million and The Eminem Show did 2.9 million both in four weeks
That should settle this debate
the biggest rappers of all time are most likely eminem and 2pac and 50 cent
aftermath’s run in the 2000s was on another level
I didn't even start listening to rap until 2005 (outside of pop-adjacent stuff like Nelly, Snoop and Jay's crossover stuff, basically anything Pharrell was attached to) but I knew who Eminem was. Everybody did and everybody had an opinion on him. He was a pop culture phenomenon. Drake annoyed some oldheads during his come up but Em had everyone in a stranglehold.

No rapper has a better 2 or 3 year run than 50. If you include Drake's career it's Drake but if you just doing short runs like that it's always 50
