    Latino = masculine
    Latina = feminine
    They change the last letter to x for a variable, its not that crazy

    Don’t speak Spanish but is it not structured in the same way as other european languages where “Latino” would also fulfill a gender neutral/ambiguous role?

  • Sep 6, 2020

    Just say Latin? Why every thing need to cater to everything and be sensitive and labeled? Literally just say any of the numerous NON gender words for it.

    I don’t see a problem.

    In Spanish technically the masculine form would be the default to refer to both Latinos and latinas but that’s also kinda sexist. So latinx is fine.

    See i think it’s a misreading to consider that sexist - if the word fulfills different purposes in the different contexts then in effect it’s two different words with the same spelling imo, rather than the masculine being used as the default

    You guys are projecting your hatred of white people in this thread.

    It's simply a gender neutral spelling on Latina/latino.

    The term latinx was first coined by a Puerto Rican professor.

    Lol racists

    Not latino but i nvr seen latino niggas referring to Latinx in a positive mantra

    Just like when white don’t know if they should say black or African American

    They hesitate

    Lol this happens All the time at my job.

    I'll ask a simple question like "which one is james brown again?"

    And they'll stutter and be like "umm the uhh one with the red shirt..."

    Me: ..... The black guy with the red shirt or the white guy with the red shirt

    Lol

    It’s called inclusive language. Y’all don’t know anything about it because English words don’t have “genders” like Spanish words do.

    It’s been a thing in Latin America for a while, it has nothing to do with white people lol

    And the X is only used online. People who use inclusive language in real life would say LatinE instead.

    People were saying it’s awkward to pronounce and that probably white people came up with that when it’s been a thing for a while
