He had a very distinctive style in this era for his 2nd album from 2014-2015 that saw a much more energetic sharp delivery and flow that he completely abandoned afterwards, never revisiting it. Why do you think he switched up so drastically from IDLSIDGO to SRS?

Was it because of his involvement with Slums?

    Too much weed.

It slowed down his brain, and thereafter, his flow.

He even talks in interviews like he's on a delay.

Slums may have influenced his switch somewhat but he was always heading down the path he’s on now. For example, wind in my sails was recorded in 2015, way before he met the slums guys in late 2016/early 2017. There’s also a ton of ureleased songs from that time that are a clear indication of where his music was gonna go. There’s also quest power and 45 from 2014

  • cause he built different

There’s a difference between evolving and having a complete night and day difference when it comes to your flow and delivery though

  • maybe he wanted to distance himself from who he was before

Its not that night and day he just got older and started using roc marci / billy woods inspired flows

He lived with artists who molded the sound he inherited for months at a time iirc

  • And I don't know who house to call home lately

From SRS-FOC-Sick!-Van Dior there’s not really that much of a difference stylistically although Sick! does experiment with his flows and production a bit.

But me personally I do hear a lot of difference between IDLSIDGO-SRS. But the switch up in style probably isn’t that deep.

His production did get a lot more sample heavy after idls too so I understand what you mean

You can hear remenants of his delivery from IDLSIDGO on December 25 and Loosie from SRS, so I would assume there was probably more material recorded during that late 2015/early 2016 period that reflects the transition that he just didn’t release.

Everyone is gonna say the usual slums stuff and obviously they were a part of it but this is the answer @op
