If ppl say your music sucks just work on doing better, talk to the people who succeed and try to learn from them what they do right and what missteps you should avoid
the way i always looked at it was the verb criticize = used along with the definition of disapproving of someonething's faults
and the verb critique = used along with the definition of judging somethings merits and faults
seems like those are the connotations anyway
"this is the way"
my bad
it was from "oxford languages"
i thought google used merriam webster
Im pretty confident any dictionary will have descriptions of both that include both because they are the same word
Mac Miller's downfall lead him to go and befriend better artists/rappers like TDE and Earl so he could learn from them, and then he leveled up artistically and got the critical acclaim he wanted
Life doesn't come without obstacles, you can't shelter people from getting criticized
Macs level up was truly a dope thing to watch in real time
i really dislike the idea of ppl not being to express that they don't like something. If you have valid reasons why, I don't seem the harm. This generation a bit too soft.

i have no problems
with people not liking art
but i do have a problem
with people profiting from
tearing apart people's hearts
i know that i'm painting this idealistically
but truly
if an artist pours themselves into something
i do not believe a critic should then criticize it
i'm not saying they have to like it
but reviews like Blue Slide Park and Camp
are over the line
that's what i'm focusing on
also the narratives that
come with the criticisms
let's look at nas
he's dealt with that a lot
why?
critics
narratives
Same reason we criticize anything to hear ourselves talk and to create discourse, to learn new things, etc.

but you added the key piece
"if you have valid reasons why"
nobody would disagree with that
but i find that a lot of people don't even listen to an album before they critique it
but when u think about it, that review slandering the s*** out of whatever album is that writer's art.

Your boss at work might criticize you harshly
Sometimes he's just a d*** so f*** him and sometimes he was lowkey right and you needed that slap in the face to wake tf up
So basically - think critically about the criticism you get
Mac was hurt, but then he realized that even though it was worded harshly, there was lowkey some truth to it. I'm sure that getting praise after what he had been through made it much more powerful and satisfying as well
Free time should be spent on stuff you enjoy, but people enjoy on hating s*** so its bound to happen
If ppl say your music sucks just work on doing better, talk to the people who succeed and try to learn from them what they do right and what missteps you should avoid
And the thing with critism to me is--you don't have to take in what everybody tell you. Niggas gonna say whatever they want. For you, you have to parse that info and apply what you think is applicable and let everything else just ride.
You choose to take in and do whatever with anything anybody say.
but when u think about it, that review slandering the s*** out of whatever album is that writer's art.
Absolutely correct
but when u think about it, that review slandering the s*** out of whatever album is that writer's art.
i think this would be a great topic for a youtube video
"the art of critiquing art"

word bro, this is pretty much what I said in the last post right above you as well
