Im Actually more interested in this now 🤔

I always see ppl say "whites forced Christianity onto slaves" but I just can't understand how if slaves were banned from reading and writing + what benefit would slaves get from being forced into Christianity?

Would it be to domesticate them ?

I forgot where I read it or where I seen it, might’ve been a documentary but if I remember correctly they would force the religion on them but it was like a twisted ass version for them to not defy their slave owners Or for it benefit the slave owners

And as for @CaptainRay I really don’t know much about religion like that, I was just stating something that I remember and that in a way makes sense, kinda like propaganda through religion but other then that I don’t know much about it

I do remember hearing that Europeans of the past used the bible to justify slavery and that it wasn't as black and white as we think it was.

There was A LOT of manipulation and misinformation. A lot of Europeans didn't (allegedly) know the scope of cruelty and abuse that Africans were enduring.

They thought that white Americans were saving homeless Africans from africa which was portrayed as a hell hole. And the Africans were so gracious that they were glad to work for free

F*** people that treat it like a religion, I’m atheist pretty much but I’m not going to go up to people and tell them that they’re wrong For believing in something bc tf do I know?!

  • Jul 26, 2020

I'll never understand the importance placed on religion nor people's desire to force others to accept their religion as greatest.

Yes. You don’t need organized religion to find God. It’s about developing a personal relationship with his spirit through the faith

What was the original Christianity? How did it differ from our current American Christianity. How or why did slave masters force Christianity on slaves

Ok so original Christianity vs American.
Original or unorthodox Christianity or the roots when it was talked about during the Old Testament is the faith/spirituality of Gods Message in its context.

American Christianity is when the Europeans took ahold of the faith and added pagan beliefs and whitewashed the whole belief. The biggest examples of this is

    White image of Jesus
The belief that Heaven and Hell are created right now
    Celebration of Holidays
    Loved ones watching over us

Those are the common things we see but they DONT correlate with the Bible. There’s more stuff aswell but just giving you some common examples.

Slaves owners forced it on us for one simple reason. “Control” but.. they did it in a way where it made it seem like the Bible was saying it was ok to beat them and control them. The owners took it out of context. And plus they didn’t let the slaves read or teach them. But if you look up the story of Fredrick Douglas he was one of the slaves who actually READ the Bible in its context and was aware that the slave owners wasn’t giving the full bible verses to them. He realized they would cherry pick and twist words to make it seem like they was right for beating and mistreating slaves. Eventually everyone one realized that the Bible wasn’t the issue it was the person holding the Bible who was the issue. Because the Bible doesn’t justify what they did do our ancestors if you read it in full. Don’t get me wrong though because there are still errors in the faith of Christianity. Which is called organized religion. Which is like how you have so many different types of organizations and traditions under one faith.

How would you go about doing that?

Like I don't wanna get bogged down with all this organized religion type s***. It's never been my thing and I don't feel that's the only place to find God

Maybe I phrased it wrong. I don't think society is any different than before. I think that 1. social media has made things spread faster and that 2. things that are affecting us now are different that before. 3. people are held more accountable for the crimes and actions now so less people will act on stuff.

For example an excess of d*** head and pill popping culture we have here, OVERsexualization culture, etc. While back then people were killing enslalving etc. which is what Im trying to say.

Ok i get what you’re sayin and agree with those changes. So in ur final paragraph are you effectively saying that the demise of religion overall isn’t good or bad for society?

im saying religion automatically gave people a sense of morality but the systems in place today make it so that people can't do things that were allowed back then. Thus making people think that religion isn't needed.

I believe in spirituality more than religion although im Christian. So even in christianity, many people call themselves christian while have no spirituality with Jesus, God, etc. Im not going to go to deep into that cuz that's a whole nother convo

Spirituality and religion, all of it is bullshit. If you get your morals from a 3000 year old book that says it's fine to kill your kids and stone people who don't conform, get a reality check. There is no moral high ground in any religion besides maybe Buddhism since peace, ignorance, and acceptance are core tenants.

It's hilarious to me to see people bicker about how their religion is the right religion itt Nigga y'all are both silly. Get over it. It's too many religions out here. You can believe in a God or higher power and not choose one of its many interpretations to claim is the right one. If your God is right, why are there 40 other ones who think the same?

Christians are humongous hypocrites, the biggest of them all, in that they're quick to ramble about the moral superiority of their religion but live awful, sinful lives because of the built in excuse that effectively makes the religion itself more of cover than an actual faith.

Christianity came from an old sumarian religion

If Christianity gave black ppl the hope they needed to cope with whites beating, murdering, raping, breeding, etc them then more power to Christianity

We just gotta get rid of this white Jesus fella

Real recognize real and white Jesus is hella unfamiliar

no less power to christianity because without it black people would realize how dire it is that our time here is because there may very well be nothing after this

the belief of a heaven keeps us passive and on some turn the other cheek s***

if we didn't believe in christianity black people would have burned s*** to the ground a long time ago and we'd either be extinct and at peace or s*** would have been hit the fan and things would be totally different

  • Jul 26, 2020

all religion is stupid and its only needed bc probably 70-80% of humans are sick twisted animals at the end of the day who need money and religion to not resort back to savagery and instinctual primal urges

Um... the Black Churches in the South was the driving force of the Civil Rights Movement in the 50s and 60s. They def served a purpose in the advancement of Black America. You may not believe in it, but don't act like none of the products of religion (in general) benefited blacks in this country. We could even talk about Malcolm X and Muslims with his revolution

I did a research paper on this and I can see that religion, not just Christianity either, helped black people a lot in America

MLK and all that let us sit at the table bullshit hurt us too but he had good intentions

The Civil Rights Movement should have been focused on giving us equal resources inside segregation instead we focused on integration and begging them to let us be apart of their system

I’ve never understood why a large portion of the community follows something that was forced upon them by slave owners and has been used as justification for the murder rape and enslavement of our people.
Also the Bible has been edited so many times why would one trust what it’s saying

Religion has always been spread by oppressive means. You can say this about pretty much any religion and ethnic group.
