Why do you care is the better question

  • Dec 25, 2023

Because the 20somethings who are a&r’s/influencers/producers and put those young people in positions of visibility don’t use their actual discernment and just go with what they think “the youth” will like which is just a slight modification of the trap music we liked in 2013-2017

When we were coming up we looked up to people like Wayne Kanye Drake who were genuine innovators. The kids today only have trend modifiers to look up to

Ironically, many high schoolers listen to older music in part due to Tik Tok.

    Also this

People will say “foh grandpa” but the actual kids born in the 2000’s miss the 90’s-2000’s quality of music and pop culture/fashion/media moments lol

The past eras defined hip hop and Laid the groundwork. Our era solidified hip hop as a universal force in music, building it up. This current era is just having fun with the playground our era established. When the time comes, we’ll have another Kenny or Drake.

    Time is a funny thing

I was at a family event and "Ten Crack Commandments" by Biggie played on a stereo and I swear....the Zoomers in my fam rapped every bar word for word lol.

Edit: Wait is being born in 96 Millennials or Gen Z cause I'm curious to see where I belong.

I be thinking bout this a lot. As a kid the perception I had of rap was like it was a multi decade thing at that level when it’s really a gradual progression to snoop to 50/Hov to Kanye/Wayne then drake and so on in terms of how each decade has expanded rap’s grasp

As a kid I thought something like 50 Cent or Jay z (rap artists being that big culturally) had been happening since the 80’s lol

At 40 years old this conversation never gets old because the new 20 something’s always think they are the first to think the kids like trash

It’s a cycle and it will never end

because we were dancing to cat daddy kush and Oj so far gone section 80 etc did not exist

why does everyone pretend to think like this now. like you know this just isn’t an accurate representation of that time frame musically but just wanted to contradict op’s sentiment lmao

Same I got younger relatives who constantly playing 90’s-2000’s s***

It’s sad because it’s like they want to have those same quality musical moments from new artists today but the industry brainwashes each other into thinking that type of s*** wouldn’t work

and older people are insecure about being washed so you have things like the drake FATD debate where instinctively you think the youth likes low effort trendy music so that must be the priority
