Actually I can’t even say that. A lot of these dudes are in the 22-26 age bracket calling people boomers for not liking lil pump or whatever thug clone of the month is out but s***ting on classic old school stuff

age bracket is definitely younger that man lol like 15-21

60s-80s "Alternative'/Indie/Underground genres of Rock aren't "dad rock"

You guys don't even understand Rock was youth culture. Stadium rock was "dad rock".

And there were plenty of Black rock artists, it wasn't "white" music. One of the first Punk bands was black.

tbf i think a lot of older hip hop just doesn't age as well as some of the rock music stuff

its mainly the production that i think makes a lot of older hip hop records sound stale to some ppl in comparison to the rock music of that era

ofc not to generalize a whole era but i think that's what it comes down to plus a lot of these hip hop album are also just super long, unnecessarily prolonged by skits and interludes while most rock albums have a nice 40 min mark cut off thus making it easier to take in and digest for people. (again not all rock albums, but its a more common thing to happen in rock music than in hip hop)

but the whole dust argument is still dumb and probably stems from immaturity.

but maybe I'm just rambling who knows.

    Good post.
I think the fact that rappers always have to be cool and the fact that “cool” is in a constant state of flux does force a lot of artists to make music that doesn’t end up aging well. Rock bands don’t have to learn and apply a bunch of slang that no one’s going to be using in 10 years to sell records.

“Liking old white people music makes you seem cultured and attuned” is also absolutely a factor, though.

You can’t be into that 60s rock either without liking 60s s*** even 50s soul RnB. That’s what rock was being influenced by at the time

I feel like a lot of blacks and Latinos will ask you to turn that white s*** off if you play Bad Brains around them, though. It’s largely White America’s fault (culturally and economically; kind of hard to start a rock band in the hood with no money for gear and nowhere to rehearse) but black people did kind of abandon rock music. Bands like Bad Brains are sadly still exceptions to a rule.

  • Feb 22, 2020

Cuz 80s hip hop can sound way more dusty than some 60s rock
Usually if rock sounds dusty it’s cuz of the recording not the production whereas it’s the opposite for hip hop

100% agree. I don’t think we technically abandoned. We was making fire soul music along with RnB and disco few years later then hip hop. White people just took that s*** and went brazy with it I can’t even lie lmao

They're just dumb, racist whites who think listening to white rock artists makes you more intelligent.

Free Jazz and Blues were a big influence on plenty of seminal rock acts too.

    good point.
i also think this has changed a bit over the course of the last decade with the cudis and drakes writing more intimate and vulnerable s***, and being more open with their feelings and emotions in general.

but ofc you still always got that cool facade type gimmick, which is cool for the right moments but if there's no balance its becomes stale.

last decade brought a diversity to the genre that has its pros and cons as well...

I never thought Drake's music was more emotional or vulnerable tbh. In fact he hides more than a lot of rappers (Marvin's Room which is one mess of a song is an exception). He mainly stood out bc his s*** was more R&B influenced and relied on half-sung earworms.

2Pac, Jay Z, Nas, Ghost, Andre, DMX, Ye and many others legit had songs that can make a grown man cry.
