This is like saying TPAB was just a reflection of Flying Lotus's artistry lol.

Flying lotus worked on one song. And none of the songs on TPAB was previous songs and Kendrick added verses. All were original concepts from him.

I don't get how someone can hear the song "Take Care" and not instantly go "wow this is a masterpiece" come on now.

He didn’t write that song that’s why 😂

    Goo

Bc they've been the 2 most popular rappers since the last decade

Plus the sexual tension they had for a few years

    Exactly, close thread

FlyLo sent Kendrick a folder of beats, and then Kendrick, inspired by FlyLo's work, came up with the idea for TPAB

Drake co-wrote the song. Kendrick has co-written some of his songs too. Em, Nas, Jay, they all did that too.

You aren’t understanding what I am saying. The Weeknd has songs written for drake and for himself that he gave to drake. That’s different than getting beats and not using 99 percent of them.

ADHD might be my favorite Kendrick song lol

but DAMN I honestly thought wasn't really that thought provoking, contrary to the narrative surrounding it. It sounded like a diet Kendrick album

Damn felt like a weird mix of his previous albums to me, but had some great songs.

But yeah, A.D.H.D. is just pleasing on a pure sonically music level, it just hits you pure.

Drake put his own touches on it though. Kanye has done this in the past, Jay did this before too. "Renegade" was original a Bad Meets Evil joint. UGK did it on "Int'l Players Anthem", which literally uses a beat that made it onto a Project Pat album. Doesn't take away from the music at all. Trav does this too. Who cares?

As far as being the #1 most popular guy who raps, yes, indisputably, Drake is #1, and has been since like 2015 (Eminem, for better or worse, was still the most popular guy in the biz from 2010-2014, though he and Drake were neck and neck in 2013).

But I'm talking rap skill, like history book s***. Drake is a good rapper, like I said, I f*** with dude. People who aggressively hate on Drake are corny imo. But he's not batting alongside Hov, Biggie, G Rap, Three Stacks, etc.

And also, Drake's popularity is largely due to him straddling so many different genres successfully. Dude has had his hand in the pot with contemporary R&B, neo-soul, alternative r&b, dancehall, various EDM styles, trap, pop rap, cloud rap, even a bit of like art pop typa s*** here or there. He's even flirted with grime and UK drill. He's far more prominent as a general pop artist than as a pure rapper, I feel like most of his fans really gravitate towards his melodic typa music more than his bars.

"Eminem, for better or worse, was still the most popular guy in the biz from 2010-2014, though he and Drake were neck and neck in 2013"

eminem had 2000-2002 and thats it. 2010 eminem was dust💯

You are talking beats. Name songs that were written and given to artist.

Name the Kendrick song that’s was given to him amen he just can’t added verses from GKMC and TPAB.

The only time he did was Love From DAMN. And that was very derivative. Music like that always turns or that way

    Check credits people.

One person has a gang of writers

One person comes up with his own concepts, lyrics, hooks, etc

see it for yourself lol. quite a few of these songs have producers who got writing credits too. hook support, cadence support, maybe a line here or there. who knows, maybe even whole songs were repurposed for the project. does it diminish the quality of the album? no lol.

  • Mar 21, 2020

Only people who do it are Drake stans (OP surprisingly) did you create a new account just for this thread weirdo?

It's an objective fact that Eminem was the best-selling rapper from 2000-2013. Can't be argued. Dude fell off a cliff after 2002 artistically, but he was selling hella records. "Recovery" is the best-selling rap album of the 2010s by a large margin, even if it's trash.

You are acting like you don’t understand.

A lot of producers have writing credits because thy use sample etc

No one on those songs are there solely for writing Kendrick.

Not one person. Check the credits.

I literally never said Eminem defined the 2010s. Em was irrelevant in the 2010s, but he sold the most. That's all I said.

Em is stupid overrated imo. But numbers are numbers.

🤣🤣🤣. Producers as writers doesn’t mean they wrote lyrics. They use samples, add specific tags, etc and that gives them a writing credit

Show me where someone is there to write, solely other than Kendrick.

Drake has tons of people in his credits that only write songs and are not featured.
