Where did this come from? Whenever I go on mainstream Reddit, I see posts making fun of Trump, white supremacists, white Karens, etc. Any racist comment I've seen gets downvoted into oblivion.
Of course, some smaller subreddits might have their fair share of hateful content, but that's how it is everywhere, including KTT. Reddit also officially has a no-tolerance policy for hate speech; any subreddit that promotes hate gets shut down.
Why do people have this misconception that Reddit is somehow infested with nerdy white supremacists?
they enabled the_donald for many years.
the other way around homie
but the blatant bigotry and ignorance is very powerful on some subreddits
Theres a tendency of subs to become "ironically racist" or tolerate racism if its masked
The comments on this thread are f***ing crazy

I've never heard people say that about reddit tbh, especially since 2016. I've mostly just heard people complain about how saturated it is with shills, bots, manipulated content, and "hall monitor"/social media activist-type users.
Because it used to be. Reddit used to be a racist pedo den back in like 2012. It started changing from then and really started to tackle it properly from about 2016 after the election.
Mainstream Reddit are basically just liberals now.
There has been a massive cultural shift in Internet discourse over the past 5 years or so. For those around long enough, you will remember KTT used to be filled with nothing but homophobic and racist language.
I went on the Apple subreddit and saw opinions about BLM protests and they're talking "rioters". pissed me off
I don’t think a lot of people think that. Maybe on ktt? Idk. Been on Reddit since 2012 and doesn’t feel like a white supremacy dominants unless you go into some weird f***y subreddit (most of them eventually do get banned)
Reddit just full of these wannabe woke people who end up circlejerking their own ideas and downvote anybody who disagrees with them.
It used to be especially around 2010-2013. Look up anything race related around that era and the will come out. Now that its more mainstream it's become progressive left which is pretty funny.

That's the case with all internet discussion, though. People do not want to hear people they disagree with. They want to be praised for their opinions and create a circle jerk. It is very uncommon to come across somebody who wants to hear somebody who disagrees with them. People surround themselves with nothing but people who agree with them all the time.

Depends on if the people I disagree with actually have a worthwhile take or not. When the opposition is full of bad faith liars or weirdo's I'm far less interested in having a conversation.
I think a lot of reddit users try to white knight for minorities during political discussions and end up being racist on accident
Doesn't excuse it tho f*** em

I think especially the downvote system is the toxic part. When you have a hundred cowards who dont like what you say and it literally makes your comment less visible. Instead of actually engaging they basically censor your comment.
Atleast on ktt if you disagree with a person you have to explain yourself or not comment at all and move on.

To give an example of this i saw a lot of f***ed up responses to racism against asian ppl during the pandemic
White people saying s*** like "Chinese people are so smart, we should know the pandemic isnt their fault"

Sounds about white
If anyone ever still needed convincing, go on r/soccer right now. The narrative about the ref being racially insensitive towards a coach has turned into him being seen as a victim. Mention anything anti-racist or pro-black and you're done for.
I saw a comment on r/California that said “MLK would be rolling over in his grave if he saw California trying to pass affirmative action” lol I knew I had to log off after that 😂 that s*** was being upvoted too
