even if food was uniform in cost a lot of people would still buy mcdonalds because fast food is addictive and easily digestible
less would buy it for sure, which is part of why poverty causes obesity, but a whopper is still outselling your vegan kale salad
Well now comparing burgers to salad lol.
because great marketing doesn't equal great quality of the product.. this is an issue across all businesses and products, not just music.
I hear you but I don’t think marketing can force someone to enjoy something. It just means it’s more available.

More available doesn’t meant better quality

I mean replace it with most health objectively more nutritious foods and its still beating them out in terms of demand
Also I haven't looked into this recently but I think there is a surprising amount of obesity within the wealthiest group of Americans which kind of provesmy point
I feel you but i dont really see people at least on here trying to say stuff is objectively bad. Cause what even is objectively bad music?
Like if someone said Adeles music was trash thats just their opinon and how they feel about the music.
Yeaaa I get you. I think I just see people say “it’s trash” routinely without saying “in my opinion” or “this isn’t for me”
Because sales can just as likely be driven by temporary hype, image, marketing, and "hot for the moment" trends as the actual music.
Bodak Yellow and Old Town Road are Diamond based on the hype that Cardi/LNX had but how many people are looking back at them as classic/timeless songs that can be enjoyed for generations?
Radiohead never sold too well but their legacy is more in tact than Nickelback who sold more than them on one album.
Sales shouldn't be discounted so much either but there has to be a balance to determine quality.
Fam, Bodak still goes the f*** off outside lol
More available doesn’t meant better quality
Agreed but these are 2 different points. If people buy and stream it and keep doing so in large numbers, I think that speaks to how enjoyable the art is. Marketing helps that happen but we’ve SEEN highly marketed albums tank lol

I feel like the "in my opinion" is always implied tho tbh

marketing absolutely gets people to enjoy things. that's where the whole sheep mentality comes into play
Eminem sold s*** albums for a decade and was outselling Drake until streaming
he was more popular back then. and drake was less popular back then. nothing to do with streaming.

Lol I guess I just disagree. Maroon 5 is marketed everywhere yet I havent listened to them in probably over 10 years. I just think it’d be arrogant to call someone a sheep when it could simply be that we have different taste 🤷🏾♂️
Music all costs the same for someone to listen. How do you compare that to Burgers lol.
If you have 5 burgers and they all cost the same. the one that sold more is better to most people.
🤷♂️

In this scenario 4 burgers would be topped with different toppings and 1 would be a basic ass cheese burger. That basic ass cheeseburger leading the sales

You can get obese off eating anything tho
Wealthy people eat exotic foods that are still fattening and unhealthy

i definitely havent seen maroon 5 marketed in years haha. didnt know they were still around tbh ha
there's a lot of marketing psychology though around people liking things just because they think they're supposed to

not everyone likes pineapple on burgers 🤷♂️

yeah thats facts man but thats also my point
things that are superficially rewarding (like fattening and unhealthy foods, whether theyre expensive or not) arent objectively better
kind of like how a record might go at a club/party/whatever but its not as rewarding as a deep cut that really resonates with you
not everyone likes pineapple on burgers 🤷♂️
Exactly. Don't mean that cheeseburger better tho
