I'm clearly a masochist that hates music so much that it ends up feeling great to listen to

I like Drake, for example. Some of his music is great.

But I don’t have an answer for why songs as bad as I’m Upset can reach 7 on the hot 100

Many factors play into a song's popularity though. And even if a song is popular doesn't mean people liked it, it just mean they decided to click on it: songs debut high on the billboard then free fall all the time.

    1. It was a follow up single to biggest song of the year, so a lot of promotion.
    2. Its Drake, so people want to check out the single out of FOMO.
    3. Some people just liked the song.

Fr tho mf If so, why do you commend artists who don’t bring anything special to the table?
Taylor Swift is the perfect example: below average voice, consistent but unoriginal lyrics and melodies, and an awful live performer. But she is one of the biggest artists of all time.
Do you find comfort in her vanilla appearance? Do you prefer her writing because it allows you to perpetuate your lack of introspection? Or do you simply like her for her fame because you want to be a part of something SO much bigger than yourself?
This puzzles me each and every day as I see the charts filled with the same names. Regardless of the song’s quality you’ll likely see Roddy Rich, Drake, Meg, etc. The same phenomenon applies to Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran and more. Meanwhile there are artists putting out fantastic music that hardly sees the light of day.
Are you fans of music or are you fans of celebrity?
