For example, during the George Floyd protests, you had a lot of people hand wringing over the fact that small, local businesses might get looted or destroyed. Similarly, when discussions of minimum wage arise, you get the bad faith actors talking about how it would ruin small businesses who can't afford it and would go out of business or see their profit margins drop significantly.

But why should anyone care about that? These small businesses are really just there reproducing exploitation and inequality on a smaller scale and sometimes in an even more insidious way because they try to draw employees in with that "we're a family here" crap while paying them even worse than a big brand might.

In the end, small business owners are seeking to do the same thing as big business; that being to increase their profits as much as possible, which naturally entails heightened levels of exploitation wherever possible. There is nothing noble about them just because they only have a certain amount of employees, or because they only exist in your neighborhood.

I think this same type of logic can apply to wannabe entrepreneurs but a bit differently. they often want to rise up from the lower class but they can't imagine a different way to do so without taking over the role of oppressor, or at least joining the ranks of the ruling class. so basically in their case success = the ability to exploit others.

My guy I get that you hate capitalism but I feel bad seeing someone’s livelihood get destroyed.

A nigga running a small restaurant or a corner store or whatever doesn’t deserve that. Have some empathy. Everything isn’t black and white

Because it directly affects the livelihoods of the business owners, who are often not that rich at all. That's not the case with big business.

    They still exploit workers though

The answer is simple. People simply don't see small businesses and corporations as the same. Owning a small business is more within reach to a lot of people while being an owner or CEO of a large company is not. They have more compassion for small businesses even though they aren't that much better and sometimes are even worse than large corporations.

I worked for a small business, helped build it up, and after covid we went under because the businesses we worked with all shut down. I had 350+ of pto and our owner who would often say I was like a son to him and did this whole family s*** when talking about our workers did not pay us out our pto. Personally I would never work for a small business again, but I understand why people think it's different from a company that is publicly traded.

Pretty much this. I won't patron a small business if they do something foul but otherwise I want them to succeed.

And these small business owners are, like i said, just reproducing capitalist exploitation on a smaller scale, people just like to lie about what theyre doing.

Sure, we can lament the fact that every year it seems that powerful corporations gain more and more control, as capitalism lends itself towards monopoly, but the answer here is not "more small businesses" or keeping the minimum wage down so small businesses can hire more employees.
