I think there was much more versatility back then, like not everyone was trying to dress designer therefore they would bring whatever they had at home, some had nerd clothes, some had plain basic clothes, some had thrift clothes bought their parents and so on, those styles had more personality because they were brought on by their limited resources and choices.

I think todays fashion is centralised by places like tiktok and instagram, especially with the grwm trends, before this people would actually use their own mind to come up with a fit, now they just let a random tiktok influencer tell them what and how should they dress.
But hey maybe I’m just getting old, I haven’t changed my style since I acquired it 10 years ago.

I mean both things can be true. Prior to SM, MSM was the guide to fashion so it’s no different than today imo. All those categories you mentioned can be designer as well

Still, MSM was not that present in people's lives, of course I'm only talking from my pov and my only experience with fashion MSM was through celebrities/popstar magazines (which not everyone had), which you had to pick and read, nowadays you're hit with the fashion content 90% of the time you scroll on your phone (I have 0 interest in fashion and still get at least one video fashion related while scrolling).

Describe your last run in with this kind of fella please

Linked with a friend of a friend. My age (late 20s) but spoke like a teenager. Wouldn’t stop s***ting on strangers fits on the street while he was dressed exactly as you might think. Recommended we go to the coffee shop with the dj. Told me 5 anecdotes about bars in Brooklyn over the course of 2 hours. Insulted my wallabies insinuating I was ig explore maxxing. I started wearing these in highschool because of my real hip hop phase brother.. I see through you.. we are not the same…

  • it's always been this way. social media just makes it more accessible to see.

People watching to hate instead of learn...to change this man must learn to go beyond himself first

Ehh I haven’t really been a fashion head for 5 years now, but the way people dress is literally how I dressed up for work at my dead end jobs. Baggy pants + n whatever top. Thats pretty much all I see “gen z” kids dress nowadays.

Makes me feel ancient as hell now that I’ve seen baggy/bootleg make a comeback they even wearing them old ass Old Navy carpenter jeans again. But it also makes me have a greater understanding on “fashion is a circle” phrase. Hearing it, but actually living through it is kinda surreal.

I don’t own a single supreme piece and 2 palaces pieces, so not really. Besides, only looking at the brands of pieces is incredibly reductive.

Take a look at the style wars threads over the years and tell me that all those posters dress alike.

its just easier, I don't personally see it as a problem but it does cause a overconsumption problem.
