BW not named Beyonce or Rihanna in general aren't dominating the music industry.
There's tons of Black female artists that aren't hyper sexual. Janelle Monae and Noname come to mind.
But the female buying market(which is mostly White) identifies with White/Non-Black female artists over the Black ones on average which stunts the career growth of many talented BW artists.
And the ones who are more hyper sexual are given bigger platforms and are deemed more marketable to a wider market. It is what it is.
janelle monae is a pretty bad example because she tried to take the more sexualized route to blow up more and it just didnt work so she pigeonholed it in memory like it never happened. lets not forget she made that song/video Yoga and was also appearing naked in bathtubs and s*** in other MVs which was completely antithetical to her early work.

sza?
Doha cat?
meghanthestallion?
Lizzio (actually idk)?
This is only in hip hop i feel like
Yea I’ve realized I’m pretty sure this is the answer
I think as long as we live in a patriarchal society, hot looking women will always be elevated and hyper sexuality will always be look at with more fondness.
I mean sure there's discrimination as it pertains to black women in the entertainment industry, but them being hypersexualized is pretty straw man.

I'll give you Doja Cat(who's really mixed) but the rest ain't doing massive numbers like that in comparing to White/Hispanic female artists.
I could be wrong though. I'll admit it if I am.
Didnt billie do a titty unboxing when she turned 18 at a show? Like she made it a big deal
screaming
S***sells
It really doesn't, this chloe song is flopping
Normani's song is underperforming
Lizzo's song is underperforming
Megan's whole album underperformed
All these women learned the wrong lesson from Cardi b's career lmao

@op never replied to this cause he know his argument is dumb asl
Only if you're cherry picking & have tunnel vision
Also lol that only black women are exploited, its women in general, & also some women genuinely like being sexual

actually op got a point because black women are generally very oversexualised by society in general which is why in all honesty they have to be promiscuous or what have you to make it. i mean yeah you have brandy but you don’t really have many brandys
You wouldn’t see artists like Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Camilla Cabello, etc doing stuff like this
billie eilish: literal day she turned 18 they had posing like this in lingerie for vogue magazines. one of her biggest hits even while she was underage was legit about having s***with old men
olivia rodrigo: https://www.instagram.com/p/CTzz7WrrTFh/
she wasnt 18 until recently so not fair to judge her, not as egregious but they already have her transitioning to wearing more revealing stuff almost immediatedly, which is clear from a glance at her IG
camilla cabello: not super familiar, you might be right about her, but she isnt super popular anymore beyond that Havana being a hit so idk if its a valid comparison
taylor swift: that's because she blew up off of country and not off of pop. as she blew up off of pop she slowly got more sexualized.
example:
other white pop stars:
-katy perry filmed mvs of her mostly naked and was touring wearing what was virtually a corset and nothing else early on
-britney spear's literal entire career, including being hyper-sexualized while she was underaged
-ariana grande's entire post-disney career is basically about being a s***icon, thank u next, sweetener, and dangerosu women are literally all about being promiscuous and her entire image is blackface and stereotypes of sexuality
-madonna literally popularized the entire idea of pop stars just being hyper-sexual and pushing the bar
-other examples of clearly sexualized (even if its of their own accord) pop stars are like charli xcx and dua lipa
yes you have old pop stars like idk celine dion or cyndi lauper but for each of those you also have older black pop star equivalents
people hate to hear this but this is literally just how most women are treated in the industry. its not a race thing, its just more common because hip hop is an already over-sexualized genre to begin with, and most black women in pop come from a hip hop/r&b background musically which means they have those roots (i.e. doja cat - she was sexualizing herself BEFORE she even blew up, look at the Amala cover for example, or even the Moo video). you can argue certain forms of sexualization black women face are more egregious than what white pop stars do, but i don't know how true that is historically when you look at white pop stars like britney spears. the pop industry and wider mainstream media industry just sexualize the s*** out of women, this has been thing and will continue to be
Great post but this idea that female artists are being forced to be sexy is laughable
Because there’s hypersexuality and fetishising of black artists — particularly women
