    We Didnt Like That

If we go by biggest impact and albums ASTROWORLD put Trav in top 3, whether we like it or not that's what the youth likes that's just being unbiased and objective.

One album doesn't put you in the convo

Only one rapper here has been objectively in the top 3 in all three areas

    Kendrick

    Commercially competitive
    Critically competitive
    Lyrically competitive.

No but I shouldn't have to remind you how Days Before Rodeo and Rodeo are loved not just by Trav stans either. I don't like him but he's got multiple hit albums under his belt in such a short time

I understand disagreeing with Cole being there but those of you trying to spin OP’s criteria on him when he specifies mc being a part of it can’t really spin in on him with people that wouldn’t be considered mc’s by most

If you’re gonna spin someone’s argument on them...it kinda has to use their argument

Which is why I said there's more to a big 3. And Cole has a larger impact on rap than Travis.

Im kinda ready for us to get past the big three convo in regard to Drake Kendrick and Cole tho, cus I wanna see who out of the NEW school would be considered top 3.
I know for a FACT if X was alive he'd probably have a spot.

"Objectively" so you going to explain how or just say anything

Drake and Cole both fit those areas too both have the critical success with Born Sinner, FHD, Take Care, NWTS And If You're Reading This

Drake got some incredible verses on his none single tracks. Lord Knows, Too Much, You & The 6, Cole got his great verses on both albums and features

And of course all of them have the commercial success

    That's "objectively" the whole truth

Based on what? Trav is obviously a huge brand outside so to make it easy let's just stick with rap. Trav and Mike Dean have definitely effected mainstream hip-hop production far more than Cole and his self produced work. There's more people rapping like Travis (you could also credit Young Thug) than Cole.

Where you seeing the Cole impact?

The top 3 surpassed their predecessors so the next 3 must also do the same it's up to rappers like Lil Baby to put in more work because he's close. We've already seem Trav pass Cole commercially

Because most travis fans are white. Yeah Astroworld sold more but Cole in 2018 was still talked about in rap circles that year more than travis. No1 really raps like travis in this era and production is a stretch. Cole has a larger impact on rap because his music is centered more on issues hip-hop culture tends to talk about. Be Free is a more talked about record than any Travis song. It did more for rap. Travis is just an artist in rap.

Who was top 3 before Drake/Kendrick/Cole

Wayne, Ye and just like Cole the 3rd spot was depending on who you personally liked. There was an argument for Em, T.I but Drake came in during 09. Remember Kendrick and Cole came later

Ah I remember being your age. Back then you only had a couple of options when it came to music. This was before you could create infinite amounts of AI-generated music tailored to your brain waves to induce whatever mood you wanted

Back then, you had to rely on other humans to make the music first. Then they would upload it and you could stream it. There weren’t many options at first. Only a few people were really good. There was this guy named Aubrey. Well, that was his real name anyways. He went by Drake

Drake had a monopoly on listeners. Everyone listened to Drake. He was a cultural force. Everyone knew about him. Remember, this was back when your options for music were limited. There were other choices, but they weren’t that good.

Over time, more options appeared. Soon there were so many artists of quality that music listeners’ attention became decentralized. There were no more Drakes. There were millions of artists. Whatever your niche was, whatever mood you were in, there was an artist for that. From there, AI generated music took this even further. These days there aren’t any big artists. You just let your Neuralink directly read your brain waves and generate music perfectly tailored to you

I know this is probably copy pasta but i actually like this post lol

Lol no1 ever said "the big 3" was wayne kanye and whoever. Wayne was top dog and everyone submitted. It was his era. There was no big 3. T.I. and Kanye were some of the best from their era but there was a clear gap between those 2 and wayne. Jeezy as well. Idk why he went to drake like Jeezy wasnt doing his thing either back then. Man was a star.

The big 3 was literally invented for kendrick, drake, and cole.

Idk about this one. Kanye and Cudi paved the way for guys like Trav to make a mainstream impact beyond genre, race, and even lyrical content (hence all their white fans). That doesn't discredit they're impact in hip hop however, most rappers nowadays are definitely making legit hip hop while calling themselves ragers and citing Cudi / Trav as their influence. It all started with a pink polo if we being real
