BRAVEI’ve always been suspicious of the inception of the Drake/Kendrick/Cole ‘top three’ as being less “this is the MC trinity of the 2010s” and moreso hiphop purists being wary of the new top guy (Drake) having an image/background that spits in the face of the ideal respected MC image while being undeniable as an MC, therefore being forced to acknowledge him (albeit begrudgingly, we remember the jokes/shunning)
So once Cole blows up it’s like “YES! We have a more traditional new guy coming to the top to balance this Drake madness”. Then Kendrick comes around and they’re even more happy. Because it’s really only those three checking off the boxes, at a certain point it became a trinity - a top three

In the blog era it was Kendrick, Cole, Drake, Sean, and Wale. The only reason it became "the big three" is because the last two niggas ain't elevate as high and the first three, and there was no one else to put there. So after that era it should go back to just being the top 5 like always

We Didnt Like ThatIt brought Hip-hop to the front of the cultural zeitgeist in a way we haven't seen since In Da Club or A Milli. How could you even go outside without hearing it in a house party or cars driving by? The memes and parodies were on every website from Reddit, Facebook, Twitter and even on ktt. You brought up Be Free and I remember the talk but Sicko Mode was that on steroids x 10. Did it change Rap forever? No neither of those songs did but they brought in more people and that brings in more revenue for the culture and attention for our people.
Same could be said for Trap Queen, Hot Nigga, and even Thrift Shop.
It's gonna take more than a megahit or a hot album to replace Cole.
Cole's been musically active and relevant for a decade with a number 1 album in 2011 and is about to get another number 1 album a decade later. And he's gone platinum each time and has a lot of good features and can spit.
And I like Travis but we'll have to wait and see how Utopia unfolds for him to even be in the same convo as Cole.
