I agree but that’s just how rap was back then
The genre was just born and good flows weren’t developed like that yet
Rakim didn't have good flows? LL Cool J? KRS?

LL Cool J has one of the most expressive voices in hip hop. It’s not talked about enough either.

I never said that
But a majority of rap in the late 80s early 90s had basic flows
People literally credit Rakim and KRS One for coming up with more advanced flows that most rappers did in the 90s

timeless flow
They don’t really have any classics from what I’ve heard. Eminem was really the first white rapper to really get the respect with the sales. Beastie boys are acknowledged for being present though

I pray for anyone who hasn't listened to Paul's Boutique front to back
I mean yeah I’ve seen that album in list and heard a few songs off of it maybe I need to give it more of a chance but they are definitely ina weird category in hip hop history from what I’ve seen. It almost felt like they are brought up in a different category compared to most rap back then. In might have just not aged well. We have a couple of classics that are definitely like that.
A lot of people think all beastie boys music sounds like Licensed To Ill and write them off
Their 90s work is incredible , one of my fav groups oat
they do get their flowers
they haven't aged that well like most 80s hip hop tho
Their 90s album are waay different
top 3 rap group with wu and tribe lowkey
Outkast completes the top 3 w them, then Beasties

Middle aged white people love mentioning the beastie boys when u talk about rap
KTT be like "Why don't The Beatles get their flowers?"
working on a "Why Doesn't KTT2 Give Rakim His Flowers" thread

It’s not about their numbers they just sound super alternative on most of their songs so while they are obviously a big part of rap back then they don’t really fit the image. I would be surprised if they weren’t doing numbers back then

Their first album was huge then they had label issues and dropped 2 albums that didnt do as well but those were great albums, one of them is easily one of the best rap albums ever. Then they were huge for the rest of their career
Id say they have 2 classics too Paul’s Boutique and Ill Communication
