Have you not paid attention to the artwork Gunn buys and has commissioned, or how involved in fashion he is? and when it comes to the musically statement, the fact that they are pushing it back in the direction of boom bap and a more old school sound, as well as unifying so many acts to come together and make music together? So yes, I would have to say they are helping push the culture as a whole, as well as art, fashion and even the music, forward.

Thats cool and all but going back to a sound that’s been done decades before and not adding nothing new to it isn’t pushing the game forward

Credits are due cuz it still sounds fresh and inspired but the sound isnt pushing s***

G Unit didn't unify the game like this, in fact, 50 has always been mouthy so he did the opposite.

I would disagree, because you are admitting it sounds fresh and inspired. It doesn't sound exactly like a carbon copy of decades old music either, it brings nostalgia of it, though if you disagreed and said that it does, I can't fault someone for that opinion. They have pushed Buffalo to be a valid music scene, as well as hearkens back to the era right when DJ's and MC's both started getting credit for the music. And my argument in favor of it pushing the game forward doesn't stem from that anyway, it is more about the fact that it shows artists from any walk of life or style can come together and create something dope, THAT is what will push the music forward.

They’re still pigeon holed though. Branching out isn’t just about sales it’s about artistry. They have been making the same kind of music for years now. Just becoming repetitive to me

The same can be said for a slew of other artists as well, and I think we take it as a bad thing too often. Not everyone has to constantly reinvent themselves and completely change their sound every project, though I would point out that their early projects were inspired by other artists and do sound different from now, and each project does show growth, even if slightly. The beats get better, the structure of the albums and songs get better. Supreme Blientel is a completely different experience than Pray for Paris, and looking back, looks amateurish in comparison, even though most people loved that album.

so a dude buys art and is into fashion (like dozens of rappers at this point) so he's pushing the culture forward

Griselda going back to boom bap s*** means nothing considering they're the only ones doing it, hip hop certainly isn't going in that direction

what acts are they even unifying too? certainly not enough relevant ones to make any impact

if anything I'd argue Griselda is pushing forward the culture less than any other pocket of rap, they're stuck in the past

Agreed. But g unit had a similar structure as far as having a NY artist, south artist in young buck, and west coast in the game. On a side note, I seen griselda signed there 1st female artist couple weeks ago. Do you know if shorty nice?

he creates his own fashion and commissions artwork, not just buying it, he inspires it. They have murals painted of them, even in different countries.

I have heard more sample driven music that is starting to steer away from trap beats and 808s lately

as far as what acts they are unifying, what do you mean? he had Virgil DJing for his album release last night
Jay Versace made a beat on his album
TTC has a beat and featured on the album, along with Joey Badass, Freddie Gibbs, Cartier William TAP DANCED on a beat

They have songs with Drake, 2 chainz and many more otw
talks and meetings with Kanye pre Corona
they're signed to shady records AND have a distribution deal with Roc nation
they incorporate Wrestling and poetry into their music as well as movie and show references, historic figures, and much more.

Who else you know with Your Old Droog, Anderson Paak, Sauce Walker features?

This really is something special, and is exactly what the OP is about. I don't expect everyone to really dig in here, but just know there are those of us who will, and those of us who have been here since the start, and we know what we are talking about, so just appreciate it if you ain't gonna take the time yourself man.

She sounds like she has potential and it will depend on how Griselda wants to mold her. As of right now her music sounds a lot like Megan Thee Stallion, give or take.

But isn't that what its about? They are a group that isnt conforming, mainstream is conforming to THEM. that is what separates good acts from great ones if you ask me.

thats why every single project sells more and gets more and more popular right? that's why more and more artists want to collaborate with them huh?

not to mention that they will tell you themselves not to put down these new artists, soundcloud and mumble rap included, they uplift people and stay positive when they come from a violent background of struggling to survive in Buffalo NY That is some powerful s*** and it just goes to show that you don't really know what you are talking about at all.

These niggas can rap but I’ll never get the super hype for them at least I don’t yet. It’s high quality coke raps. Been a staple of rap for years and will be for years to come. I guess because they’re from NY it’s hitting harder. I will say they are the first new act I can think of that rap like this but it’s far from some groundbreaking s***. Benny >> Gunn > Conway

I hate bringing up numbers because numbers don't measure quality but they're not selling much and they never will.

You sound like a fanboy, stop sucking them off and realize that while they're thriving in their lane they aren't doing a whole lot more than that. And it's fine, that's more than most artists will ever do. But you're painting Griselda as a group of visionaries while they're really just some rappers you like.

Nah but really, Griselda dope but... they don't really do anything that groundbreaking or special. They stand out because they refuse to conform to zoomer rap trends, but if it was the early 2000s they'd just be a less interesting Clipse.

That’s dope that they don’t hate on rappers with mainstream styles. I would have thought they would be on that real rap s***

Actually I’ll say they’re special by all being “old” and getting in the door of the industry. Da Baby kinda got that too but especially these dudes

  • Dope label group and rappers but nothing special. Where it’s ground breaking at all.

Good music but no where near ground breaking.

Please don’t hipster out Griselda like y’all did every other rap group who make traditional hiphop. 🙏🏿

All it takes is a platinum selling Benny album and they will have eclipsed anything the Clipse even thought about doing tbh

Clipse got dropped from labels and though I love push to death, it is known that his raps are based more on stories more than his own life interweaved with his own, and that isn't a fault or anything, Pac did that too, but every member of Griselda speaks on their own experiences. And you see how well GOOD music is doing with Push at the head of it.

On top of that, Clipse had Pharrell, an already known producer at the very start to help boost them. Griselda brought their own DJ with them and has garnered the respect of everyone else in the game themselves based on everything they did in house, allowing them to create music with some of the most legendary producers and rappers. Everything about them is built from the ground up themselves. No one put them on. Shady cosigned them AFTER they already generated their own buzz and people already knew about them. They already had beats and features from well known producers and rappers.
