because it isn't an intoxicant and a cause of suffering for the majority (if not all), the thread title should be why is alcohol addiction so normalized

Before Turks/Arabs gave Europeans coffee they spent the majority of their days getting piss drunk
The launch of coffee houses in the western world gave rise to various university campuses and financial institutions including the London Stock Exchange and Lloyd’s of London, one of the oldest insurance firms in the world. All former coffee houses.
These places became hubs of commerce and academic debate. Coffee shops tended to populate around universities because the main customers saw use in the energy boost and congregation of business or scholarly minded people in one place.

Coffee and tea helped launched international trade and commerce forward at a rate much faster than previously seen before the 18th century.

Think it’s pretty normal to see why people don’t mind sticking to their coffee.

because it is a pretty benign or even beneficial substance that can be abused with little consequence.

coffee has been shown to reduce risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and a bunch of other diseases. it also increases your metabolic rate so you burn calories faster thereby making you skinnier, just by sitting on your ass (if you load your coffee with sugar and cream, this benefit would be offset)

How else you gonna be productive day-after-day

idk about you but I'm more productive without coffee tbh, it just makes me extremely jittery. I still drink a cup in the morning and love coffee but could never drink too much.

    This
If you don’t have a strong enough constitution to even drink coffee then leave it alone, but most people can incorporate in their lives well

If I have too much caffeine when going into an anxiety ridden situation I'm going to feel terrible, and might vomit.

But if I have caffeine and I'm chilling, doing nothing, I'm good.

  • Jan 28, 2023

i feel like caffeine and energy drinks don't do anything so i don't really drink either

  • Jan 28, 2023

I drink a cup a day, no problem. I’ve gone weeks or months without it and don’t really see a discernible difference. I don’t drink any past noon tho.
