S*** sounds cheap with those muddy ass sounds and boomy 808's, c'mon how could you be the biggest artist right now and still sound like it was EQ'd around by a toddler? The demo versions that were remastered by some of the user like Deep Pockets and Desires sounded better than what we have on the tape.
If the album's gonna sound like this idk if I'll enjoy it, what happened to those days of crisp sound with Views and IYRTITL? Needs to step it up and I get this is a demo tape, but still most of your average joes probably think it's an album so better off making it sound the best as you can. Feels like his music is made to be played through your last station headsets since he gotta appeal to like 10 demographics

you miss the part of the title where it was called Dark Lane DEMO Tapes?
these were songs that were never meant to be released and only dropped cause fans were demanding them or they leaked.

Mixing an album takes 1 day max if you know what you’re doing
I agree but tbh the casual listener/general public aren’t gonna care or notice so it kinda don’t matter for him
My hope is LP6 gets back to the clean sound of NWTS, IYRTITL & VIEWS.
Dark Lane Demo Tapes is excusable because its literally just B-Sides and Leaks he threw together to appease fans during Quarantine. But Scorpion had some terrible mixing on it (Looking at you OG Talk Up).

Talk Up was very quite compared to the rest
I’m not watching 41 minutes of this, what is your point?
idk if Drake's mixes have ever been outstanding tho besides a few songs every project tho.
i remember during the Take care days, they said they were mixing specifically for LAPTOP speakers because thats what most people listen through first (ofc it aint like that no more & probably isnt the same ideal they go with).
and if you're mixing specifically for laptop speakers, you need a "flat" straight forward mix with not too much going on for it to cut through clearly especially for common laptops of the time. for example.
i imagine most his music today is mixed to get across whatever listening device that might be there in general the best way they can get it.

I just remember the original mix being horrendous and him pabloing it a month later by adder a newer, slightly better version.

Artists need to stop constantly updating the mixes after the album is out, why can't they just get it right the first time?
Dark Lane Perfectly Mixed Tapes. Has a ring to it.
We'll see how it is on the album is DLDT tier mixing.

Take Care had fantastic mixing, but yea Drake's music has never been outstanding in that regard otherwise. NWTS was okay, though I hear some distortion throughout and wasn't as engaging mixing wise

It's just starting to get me a little worried

I know this is a Drake thread, but everytime Kanye does something different, it ends up being copied and replicated later down the line. Not saying Drake bit Kanye in anyway whatever, but I am saying that Ye's ideas end up being recycled down the line by other big artists.
Like 808's becoming the foundation of Drakes more melancholy style or Travis's autotune usage.
Or MBTDF becoming the catalyst for rappers and singers to pretend they're more artistic and special then they actually are.
Pablo gave artists an excuse to go back and change things if people were b****ing about it.
Yeah his mixes be lacking. I noticed more since I actually record and try to mix a little bit. D4L is the worst case. His voice is so off from Future and Thug. Even if this was a demo tape, if you’re putting it on streaming it’s officially apart of your discography. Pay somebody to mix that s*** right, so that it’s all consistent.

40 talks about the sound mixing and sound design on Drake's projects including the upcoming album and DLDT, everything we discussing on in this thread is discussed and explained in that interview.
