    March Madness out now

We have to also stop ironically putting lyrical performances like this up there with like lets say Sixteen by Andre 3000 or Exhibit C by Jay Elect

Its diff tiers of rap and thats fine lol

  • Nov 8, 2024

His style is too non traditional

    Nah mannnnnnnnnn.

Ye got a lot of quotables even for how average he is compared to the "Hovs" and "Nas'" of the world.

If you listen to a lot of rap before/outside of post Wayne and Kanye you’d see why people say they not lyrical lol

Part of their appeal is that they give you a good amount of lyrical density that made people respect a rapper without getting too deep into the hip hop purist nerd bag. Hov invented tbh

I'd consider him in the conversation, but the two major factors I'd say are

    1) he blew up after Drake/Cole/Kendrick, who feel like they all blew up around the same time

    2) he lacks the technical rapping ability the three have. He's kinda in a completely different lane

There really is no definition of the big 3, they're just the 3 guys from the blog era with the biggest and loudest fanbases. Kind of a right place right time kind of thing

I'm just saying Future did that song with all those things combined. I'm not doing it ironically either

Nigga huh? If you listen to a lot of rap outside of Kanye he has very simple setup and delivery

I was just watching a Sway interview with him from 2008 where he acknowledges this himself; 50 said he wasnt really a strong rapper just good at putting words together and Ye agreed

future isnt a backpack rapper the “big 3” were all backpack rappers blowing up at the same time

I need niggas like Freeway with that rapid fire flow tbh

I remember reading a thread on TheColi and some nigga was saying where are the next Beanie Sigels, Mos Defs, Talib Kweli's, Guru's, Jadakiss', Styles P's, Xzibit's, Ice Cube's, Scarface's, Pastor Troy's, Mystikal's etc. in the game.

A part of me was like "that old head don't be listening to underground rappers doing that s***" but then I realize that the algorithm and the way things are set up is causing those artists to not be respected or admired.

To be honest, we got artists that are unapologetically Hip Hop (MIKE, Smino, Navy Blue, Silkmoney, Kenny Mason ICECOLDBISHOP, Robb Banks, Tony Shhnow, J.I.D., Redveil etc.)

Problem is they're not getting their due or respek. I honestly think that whoever that "Nirvana" type rapper or wave will be, it might vindicate those rappers mentioned or at least give them appreciation

Oh my bad you’re absolutey right. Topics isn’t future problem although again this wouldnt be a convo if he went all the way in with it and didnt toe the line

Its like how Wayne really only has georgia bush or tie my hands. It wouldnt be laughable to make more pac type comparison with Wayne if he fully delved into making those type of songs. Future still gon make those types of songs in his cool ass trapped out way thats not really as intricate as how someone woulda did it before that was “the cool”

before “the algorithm” was blogs and the front page of mixtape download websites you would have to travel to and they’d serve you good underground stuff or you could see what people are listening to now one of the hottest songs rn is the ybn nahmir gta san andreas song bc it’s everywhere on tiktok it’s a different world

this applies to like the majority of rappers even coming out of the 90s, it's just become this weird circlejerk where yall will repeat that he has a top 3 discog only to turn around and say his lyricism isn't that great when he checks almost every box

And its f***ing crazy to think that he didnt have someone to guide him in doing that lol. Big Daddy Kane and s*** influenced him but to naturally have decision making creatively and strategically that ended up being the blueprint for Drake Kanye Wayne is amazing.

I dont know what you want me to say if you listen to people like billy woods doom or even eminem jay elect andre and then dont think some of Ye’s lines are cringey/low effort/filler especially after MBDTF

That dont even touch the writing

But again i personally appreciate Ye lol i just see what niggas are saying

There’s purely just trying to rap and then there’s song and album making

Him being older by time he blew up could play a factor in that.

if you don't believe some of the people in that list (em and jay elec specifically) don't have cringey/filler lines I really dont think you a fan like that

you also keep doing this weird separation of the writing and the delivery when the point of hip hop is that it's not all poetry, how you say it is half the point.
