i said this in the OP. would you like to try again and say something a bit more meaningful?

there is no historical context to a rapper in 2022 saying the n word. there is historical context in movies like django unchained

I agree that it should be fine to rap along with it. Not really different from reading it off a script at the end of the day.

It’s a slippery slope saying they should be able to freely use it in their own writing. Of course there are white authors who frequently use the word to characterize or provide historical accuracy but that’s a little different from writing a song.

Outside of historical contexts tho, it is pretty weird imo if an actor’s character is just saying it. Especially if none of their other actions imply that the character is bigoted. For example, Tarantino in Pulp Fiction just wanted to say it

django unchained even though its fiction is based on what would actually happen in real life

like quentin in pulp fiction drinking his coffee

wait just read the end lmao

  • Dec 15, 2022

quentin is a bad example cause that dude cant wait to get the n word is his damn movies

  • thotty2hottie

what do you mean "what is the correlation"?

that's not the point of the question. read my most recent response

    Man what

You're clearly missing my point then. Completely different contexts is what I'm pointing out. One is a role, the other is pure ignorance.

because actors are playing a character

    music is about self expression

what are white rappers expressing when they say the n word?

So a white actor being paid for work, a white rapper expressing themselves, and white fans of music saying that word are all on the same level of scrutiny?

i don't see why being paid to say the N word really changes how racist it is. i think it is how it is being used

if someone paid me to walk up to a black person on the street and say some horrific s***, would that suddenly be acceptable? lol of course not

it is all about the context, and i think that rappers saying it in songs could theoretically be contextually on par with saying it in a movie

Better not be white saying this

You’re comparing actors working together to being paid to yell at strangers. You are terrible at correlations.

It's really not that hard to understand, one is historically accurate and the other is a white rapper saying a word that they shouldn't say lol

i see what you are saying, but music is not necessarily about self expression

sometimes artists take on the position of characters for their songs and write about experiences that they have never had. plenty of music is pretty much based around fantasy. dont you think?

People who bring this up just don’t want people being angry at them saying that word whenever we want

  • Dec 15, 2022
    thotty2hottie

the argument is basically the same for either

it could also apply to history teachers saying it in class in a historical context, which you sometimes hear people getting angry over

no it’s not the same. white rappers should not be making music with the n word in it period

white fans singing along to it is a different story imo

What if a white rapper wrote a song in the perspective of a black person?

Or how Eminem has written dozens and dozens of songs for black rappers and has obviously written in bars using the n word

It’s all a mess so I see where OP is coming from. Everyone draws arbitrary lines without giving it much thought at the end of the day

i feel that people are so afraid to talk about these things and it just makes it fester. instead we shouldnt be so afraid to put stuff in the open and let people discuss it, as long as it doesn't turn into name calling and such
