What if a white rapper wrote a song in the perspective of a black person?
Or how Eminem has written dozens and dozens of songs for black rappers and has obviously written in bars using the n word
It’s all a mess so I see where OP is coming from. Everyone draws arbitrary lines without giving it much thought at the end of the day
yea the white rapper would have to be playing a character who says the N word for there to be any comparison to actors
but the song would have to have justification for it like most movies featuring whites saying the n word do
i feel that people are so afraid to talk about these things and it just makes it fester. instead we shouldnt be so afraid to put stuff in the open and let people discuss it, as long as it doesn't turn into name calling and such
this really isnt something that needs to be discussed
why do you want to say a racist word so bad
its not the hill to die on

I didn’t realize one had to say nigga to express the perspective of black people
Much quicker and less intellectually dishonest one
i don't personally want to say it, i am just curious why we are willing to accept context is important in some situations for saying the word and not others

Probably because we see music as an extension of “real life” more than any other art form

yeah, i don't want to say it,
but if you want to be intellectually cowardly, then go for it.
it doesn't actually help in the long run IMO

I doubt anyone would really try that tho. If they did it would probably be met with more shock than Aunty Diaries
I'm sure most times in contemporary history that a white actor says that word they're portraying racism or ignorance of everything so I guess a white rapper could also put that in a song if they so chose, for what purpose though?

yes, I am intellectually cowardly

i get this but don't think it is necessarily true all the time,
because many artists take on the perspectives of characters, or past versions of themsleves or plenty of different things for artistic effect
music shouldnt be limited to just expressing only your perspective.
but i feel we have gotten to a good answer which is that people think music is more personal for the artist than film.
i just don't really think that should always be true

It isn’t in the underground
yes, I am intellectually cowardly
that's good stuff.
i just want to challenge you and others to think here as well. which everyone is doing. thanks

Never said they did. But would it be acceptable if they chose to do that?
It would be the same as writing a script and acting at that point
Why is it so hard for you white people to not say a word. It’s literally just that simple. The privilege is crazy
Songs are constructed, seen and marketed as nonfictional. That simple
all of them?
all of them?
What non-black person in the last 20 years has even tried to get away with “a fictional song from the perspective of a black person”
i think people forget just how abstract and creative song writing can be, perhaps because a lot of modern stuff just isn't
a bit sad tbh https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YellowSubmarine(song)#Concept_and_composition
