It's not wrong. Your values will never be accounted for if you just vote for any candidate without getting anything back for it besides him not being another guy that's even worse.

It’s not wrong to not vote, it’s just wrong to question the current system. It really makes 0 difference if you or a 1,000,000 people vote.

    huh

tbh its time we rewrite the constitution but for now removing the electoral college would be enough

  • May 11, 2020

If Biden wants the support of Bernie supporters there's a simple way to do that: adopt his policies (or at least some of them). But that wouldn't please his corporate donors that sponsor his campaign, so he's never going to do that.

The US is barely even a democracy in the liberal sense tbh lol, you're completely justified in not voting.

Exactly why they need to vote this year. To prevent it sliding further into decay and to the point where it is irreperable.

  • May 11, 2020

I get what you’re saying, but like what if some super villain gives you the choice of whether he kills 100,000 people or 50,000 people, and there’s no alternative and if you don’t choose he said he’ll kill 100,000 people. Both options obviously suck, but if you have to choose you might as well choose the lesser of two evils

The only thing that would change things is rewriting the entire constitution. The country was never meant to be a democracy in the first place.

There’s more than 2 options and there’s more than just the presidential vote

If the system that was built was loophole-less and actually worked properly, it would be decent.

The problem is that no one in the government actually controls what goes on in this country.

The buttons are pushed by very wealthy companies that hire lobbyists who then.....persuade.....congress to write bills for them or vote a certain way, thus rendering the average citizen’s opinion irrelevant.

Thats not the point of dicussion here. There is an election this year. Anyone who can vote should do so. There isnt a vote to rewrite the constitution option. There's a vote to stop a dangerous autocrat.

That isnt a unique situation to the US. Lobbyists and the wealthiest in society undoubtedly hold sway. Thats not a reason to not vote in the most significant election of a lifetime.

You were making the point that tje US is decaying into something that isn't a democracy, but it never was.

And Trump would like to be an autocrat with a lot of individual power, but he isn't and he can't be. That's not how the system works. The US is not undemocratic in the sense that power is highly personalized, it's undemocratic in that rich capitalists as class hold the power.

Again all that is irrelevant waffle. Its fundamentally wrong to not exericise your voting privilege this year because there is an objective evil in power.

We literally got two corrupt white men sexual abusers to choose from, and they both part of the establishment and don't want to make real changes that help niggas on the bottom like Bernie did, but if you say "Nah im good" then you're the a******

Don't see the issue. If they didn't earn your support then they don't get your vote.

Then protest but if you dont do s*** you cant complain

Not voting is a form of protest in and of itself.
Also, complaining isn't some right you forfeight when not voting. You have a right to complain about anything, just like other people have the right to not listen to it or disagree.

Not voting is the least effective form of protest. It by definition only holds weight if you can mobilise a majority to join you in not voting. Otherwise votes will continue while you sit idly by on the sidelines wondering why s*** keeps getting worse for you.

I guess but its so passive that it doesnt really do anything

  • May 11, 2020

People always make not voting out to be some moral high ground choice, but it'sa tiny minority of people who don't vote actually attempt to do anything to change institutions on any level. If someone doesn't vote because they genuinely don't think any candidate represents them and they're doing something to actively promote their beliefs in the real world, there's no issue with that imo

  • May 11, 2020

not voting imo in this election comes down to two things, somethings that generally describe non-voters too

    1) Vote does not matter because no living in swing state
    2) Neither Candidate is for ones personal ideas

Why this is more emphasized this election cycle is because this "lost hillary the election" last year with trump and secondly, many want to talk about the likely supreme court pick that will be available, believing that not trying to get Biden in secures a R court for however many years...

The root of this issue is a scattered ideology of Democrats. some believe that Joe and his nominees/policies WILL be progressive and forward, while others think its a load of crap and that voting for Joe would just further the Democratic Higher Ups continuation of the same tactics that have been burying the, for the past couple of years.

Because there is a clear and significantly better choice and we have a far-right talk show host sitting in office?

S***s really not that confusing. Not voting is just flat out childish and demonstrates that you’re unwilling to work with other people unless you get exactly your way.

It’s the same people saying this s*** every 4 years, and it’s the same people that show up during the next election cycle and act indignant that nobody wants to work with them after they cried and took their ball home the last time.

The Dems don’t take the progressive wing of their party seriously because they b**** and moan about 10x more than they vote, even in the primary when their guy is still in the race.

i feel some would argue that instead of the progressive voter being unwilling to work with other people/more moderate Democrats, it is in fact the issue of the More Moderate Democrat’s not showing/carrying out proper progressive ideology and policy making
