The common criticism of Pusha T is that "he only raps about coke", but it's a common thing in Hip Hop to stick to a limited set of subjects in your writing.

I can name more rappers, even rappers more successful than Push, that stuck to a certain scope, more than I can name successful rappers that always have fresh subject matter.

I see artists like Rick Ross get praised when his subject matter is just as limited and his rapping ability is more limited than Push's in terms of switching flows up imo.

Idk, to me it just seems odd that it's only Push that gets this knock, especially when Push keeps his production fresh and he always switches his rapping flows up as well so I don't see the problem with it.

Drake stans mentioned... thread about to be derailed.

I don’t get it either, I feel like it’s lazy criticism. People will d***ride dudes like Future but at the same time say Push and DaBaby make the same song over and over. I guess you get a pass if you’re one of those “cool” rappers.

Because people have been trying to brand him as one of the greats the second he told on Drake.

Now he’s getting great like criticism and people start to see that he ain’t really there.

To my understanding, this criticism wasn’t accepted as the norm until the drake thing.

Overall it’s a reach, every artists in no matter the craft has a niche market. Most ppl that listen to him go way back to Clipse. It’s a cult following and that’s pretty dope to pull off.

Lyrically dudes been consistent and has somehow gotten better.

Push raps about coke but there’s been discussion about the fact he isn’t about what he says he is.

Which is the same for a lot of rappers really.

I think the problem is that he tends to repeat a lot of the same s*** on songs whereas others at least try to mix it up. Or get features who rap about other things.

  • Nov 28, 2019

No one cares if you rap about the same thing as long as its genuine

  • Nov 28, 2019

it really is legendary that the man is rapping about the same thing for almost 20 years and still can find ways to make it interesting and witty

  • Nov 28, 2019

He’s an entertainer, found his lane and stuck with it. Push is a top
    rapper

lets not act like drake doesnt have a limited subject matter himself lmao
