I guess the era just spawned a lot of ignorance that rap did not need. Here are some examples of that era:
    1. Youngings disrespecting their elders, and purposefully wanting smoke with oldheads
    2. Molly, perc, d*** addict craze that isn't responsible (not going all Joyner Lucas on here) but was made as a reason for some rappers deaths
    3. Very ignorant rap music and artist behavior, that made white kids think gang life is cool, and they infiltrated the culture.
    4. No true classics came out of this era debatably, some people will argue Peep, Tracy, Uzi, Smokepurrp, Yachty, XXX, Ski Mask, but its all just a short lived era that needed to happen for youngings, all the while leaving a huge impact on hip hop.
    5. It mainly will be remembered, because there is more negatives than positives.

i never liked x tbh, the guy was the man reason i stopped caring. Like he wasn't a good producer, he wasn't great rapper and his singing went from okay to garbage. Then his stans hail him as the best thing ever and it was total turn off for me

Feel like this scene was great for people in the age range of high school. Was a bit too ignorant for college aged people, and DEFINITELY for people older. I was 20-22 when it happened, and by the end of it I felt I was too old for alot of that music.

I was about 15-18 during that era, some of it is ok, it just will not age super well.

People treat 2016 like gospel, but was literally the worst year of the 10s smfh

2019 is legitimately the only year for American hip-hop I could say was subpar this decade and there were still a lot of great projects. 2016-2018 was amazing vibes

You were definitely in prime age for that era. I'm sure going to parties, turning up, and everything was great with that music.

Agreed: most of that music has aged alot worse already than music from the early 2010's when lyrics where more of a staple to hold a rap song down. Similar to now where the popular music has more lyrically dense bars but it's also focused on melodies. I don't think I'll be revisiting alot of SoundCloud era if being honest.

Don't think 2016 was the worst year of 2010s but it was definitely overrated. If anything 2012 or 2015 were way better.

It's seen more often lately that more people (regardless of age) seem to dislike it.

Soundcloud was probably the most influential and pivotal platform in terms of streaming

The communities on there invented whole sub genres and soundcloud made access to it instantaneous

    Direct from artist to consumer

Could be looked at as a bad thing though cause a lot of artists (a few have admitted) to spending literally 1 week making an entire album which is why I feel music has dropped in quality immensely but then again we live in an era where instant access is a real thing and people just move on quicker because of all the other content they can access from their mobile phone

  • Mar 16, 2020

More influenced by white music and aesthetics than any other period (seen as weird in hip-hop) and arguably more juvenile (seen as childish)

  • Mar 16, 2020

S*** was flee until Lil Pump became the face of it
