Last gen, Uzi, Yachty, Pump etc were all underground at most maybe a year, before blowing up, and they were on hits, people outside the internet knew them, millions of views, s*** uzi and carti were on the vma’s a year after blowing up. But with the new underground, they’re getting like half , maybe less than that, certain ppl who were up next still underground a bit after a year, even the big ones such as Lone & Ken & Yeat havent even made VMAs or anything. Yeat is prob the biggest but doesnt seem like the known name Uzi was at his peak etc

Whats the disconnect, shouldnt the youth be the ones uplifting them?

They don't attach their songs to Tiktok s***posts and dance videos enough.

  • Apr 29, 2024

Just not interesting enough to care for. They're very forgettable and there's always a newer/younger person ready to go viral right after so why bother.

With who? Ik online they are but not much in real life

Everyone who actually listens to new rap (which is disproportionately the youth bc people around my age suck (25) )

Lazer dim and Ian are resonating in real life. Lazer dim has actual motion and is building one of the strongest cult fanbases we’ve ever seen in rap

Ian already broke through the underground getting co-signed by Yachty, Drake, Southside, OT7 Quanny, etc

I mean im around younger people alot, most think lazerdim is just a meme. They fw him but not like how u fw with an artist you fr fw

And Ian is a plant, its known these cosigns are just money behind him

uzi and carti were very commerial appealing. Straight pop melodies. They were a special part of that wave due to their pop sensibilities. yeah it was different, but there was alr pieces of what they did in the mainstream. Plus, everyone thought uzi would fade in not too much time.. yeat has alr proved himself, ken carson is huge, destroy lonely is huge. That soundcloud era is like one of the few eras that was that commercially sucessful, usually the underground has a few really big artists and mostly stays underground. But autumn still has big hits, summrs, baby keem was at some point in the trap underground. People forget how the soundcloud wave was perceived back then, people over like 21 didnt like it at all it had very mixed reception and a lot were perceived as short lived copies of each other making bullshit till 2018. Let me also remind you, they rose in 2016, we are 4 years into the 20s.. considering how big ken is now who even knows where he will be in 2016.

We need to stop doing the mistake all old heads do where we just expect s*** to play out in the way it has in the past, history is not guranteed to repeat itself and things can manifest in dif ways and take time.

You used Lil Pump as an example of someone catching on in OP so being a meme doesn’t matter

If Ian is a plant then wtf was Uzi getting pushed by Don Cannon.. the first Uzi song most people who were first onto Uzi (like me) heard was Motorola which was produced by Metro Boomin 💀

Feel like they had more variety in their sounds, were actually attempting to craft songs and it just felt more creative

  • It's not catchy. They aren't writing hit songs. It's oversaturated, low effort, easy to imitate, etc.

    Lil Pump had certifiable hits.

Even Yeat doesn't really have one and he's the biggest artist in that lane

    We don’t let artists develop

Artists blow up off their first songs while ppl like Carti, yachty, Uzi had been rapping for like 3-4 years prior

I tried listening to Lazer Dim and I can’t stand that DMV ass flow from 2016 and s***. It doesn’t even sound good. Ian is a plant if he really does have the manager and s*** as 4batz. But the only s*** I’ve liked by him is that new one on Tik tok. None of this s*** really hits and honestly I wanna give it a try cause the first time I heard Uzi and Yachty I was like dude this is trash but a couple months later I heard them again and I was like damn this is actually good so I don’t know
