It's a random conglomerate of alternative rock styles closest to grunge which does not make it grunge, it's really just an alternative rock album
Punk specifically is just not really close to it in sound or message
This is not what punk is
Grunge alt rock punk whatever you wanna call it stop being so ticky tacky it’s a sign of sever autism

Yeah it's also psychedelic ambient noise
I recently listened to this album. It’s definitely not as bad as I remember but half of the songs are straight up unlistenable, some of them pretty funny sounding for how bad they are. The best songs are the ones that are reminiscent of classic Cudi. Like Wedding Tux.
it had some negative press attached to it. I never listened to the album though bc I didnt care to have an opinion on that
I’ve never listened to this album so no opinion here but if this is true I might have to give it a fair go
It’s the real Mike Judge doing them but the skits are very long.
I remember listening to revival some time after that came out and everybody and they granny ripped on it, but I didnt find it offensive or anything, the only thing I remember about it is that its long and obnoxious but not the worst thing in history
There’s not enough overlap between hip hop fans and fans of this type of rock, at least not at that time.
It was too weird for rap fans and not “good enough” to win over rock fans tbh.
Once it became a meme/hate train, it’s kind of just synonymous with trash in the music community so most people aren’t really going to engage with it
I mean, it isn't very good. There's effort and feeling, but lots of bad writing, production, and performances, plus it's in dire need of editing.
Given the lack of crossover between rap and rock in 2015 (it's become more common; Kevin Abstract made an Alex G record this year), I can understand the attachment to the album and appreciate its influence.
But as someone who has been listening to rock his entire life, I would never call it a good album, at least in terms of what I look for in rock music.
