I love Cudi, but I deadass don’t know how people can hear a lot of lyrics on this album and be like “damn why do people forreal hate this album?”
And the actual quality of the rock music on this isn’t all that either.
Not to mention it’s extremely bloated, it should’ve been his shortest album rather than his longest. 26 tracks is nuts
Overhated tbh. If it came out today niggas would act like it was an instant classic. Decent foray into punk rock for Cudi nothing special tho
nobody would call it classic if it came out today

Normally I would agree but people are out here calling let's start here a classic so here we are
When it hits it hits But I understand the poor reception to this album and I wouldnt defend it really. However some of my favourite Cudi tracks is on this
I mean, it isn't very good. There's effort and feeling, but lots of bad writing, production, and performances, plus it's in dire need of editing.
Given the lack of crossover between rap and rock in 2015 (it's become more common; Kevin Abstract made an Alex G record this year), I can understand the attachment to the album and appreciate its influence.
But as someone who has been listening to rock his entire life, I would never call it a good album, at least in terms of what I look for in rock music.
That’s kind of what I meant by the not “good enough” for rock fans bit. Yeah of course it was too long and needed editing, and I can see how maybe some of the technical aspects would put off someone who is really into rock
But that’s also kind of part of the disconnect, it’s like rap fans judged it as a rap album, rock fans judged it as a rock album, and both kind of lead to a harsh perception. It’s probably best looked at as an actual outsider record
I don’t like every song but I don’t think there’s that much wrong with the production, it’s not like it’s supposed to be polished. Generally don’t think the writing and performances are that bad either, a few of the heavier tracks I don’t like as much but I think cudi’s vocals and lyrics on the album are good
Also as far as the attachment, the lyrics play a big part of that, it’s a whole concept album about death and suicidal thoughts. I relate to the whole thing heavily and I think that’s always part of why people like cudi
Its a meme to like this album. he took like two months of guitar lessons and thought he was a rockstar

Confused & SB2H is cool but if you listen to a Nirvana album and then come back to this it’s like ok what are we doing here
Normally I would agree but people are out here calling let's start here a classic so here we are
Let’s Start Here is obviously better
