There are but 99% of them pander to social media which divided fanbases into little niches to the point you can ignore said superstar
Compared to something like MTV back then where they played the same music videos 24/7 to the point said stars became superstars and widely known to the public cuz of that “inescapability” factor
Oh you mean the re-incorporation of old atlanta aesthetics and production on them youtube only singles?
Also superstars imo should have like…actual lyrics.
Nelly was a superstar

I think its simple as being that many of the newer names in hip hop just don't put out music thats digestible by the masses
Someones 50 year old mom can get down to Nice for What or All Falls Down (well could've pre anti-semitic arc), but she isn't listening to Ken Carson, Carti, or Uzi (all artists that were considered to be "next up")
I know this always gets repeated in these discussions, but Juice probably had the greatest chance at being a superstar of any new artist that came up since 2016, especially if he expanded his subject matter past d**** and depression as he got older.
Good point.
Even Eminem, 50 Cent, and DMX who made some of the grimiest music were good at making jams that could be enjoyed by the masses.
But I feel like the decentralization of media has resulted in artists literally not knowing how to create songs with mass appeal anymore. Adults past a certain age ain't checking for Tik Tok or Youtube for the latest songs. MTV, BET, and VH1 stopped premiering new songs and music videos years ago. People are watching TV as a whole less than before. Radios stick with megahits from the past to stay on the safe side unless your song is super popping. Magazines don't sell like they used to. Social media has replaced televised press runs. Tik Tok has replaced promo tours and touring in clubs until you find out what clicks with people.
Times have changed drastically and even many of the bigger stars today don't compare to C/B list stars from the past.
This especially impacts rap because the "streets" don't support music enough to keep rappers' careers afloat. That's why most Drill rappers end up flaming out outside of chaotic lives.
Sabrina carpenter exists hello 😘
Does she really have that it factor? I’ll watch an interview of hers tonight and see
Paris texas. Kenny mason. Doechii. Jpegmafia. Ghais Guevara. Smino. Saba. Noname. Little Simz. Topaz Jones.
It’s hard to be a superstar when you competing against 5+ different streaming platforms and an audience with a shortened attention span they cant even handle a 3 and a half minute song
Outside of Kenny Mason & Doechii, none of these artists would’ve been superstars, even in Early 2010s they wouldn’t
Oh boy, can’t wait for his THIRD 80’s masturbation album in a row !!!!!
How cool would it be if he did a 60s or 40s album

Save us, Yves Tumor!
Noone with the word Tumor in their name will have a superstar career
I would say Kendrick, Drake and even Kanye (yeah still) are all superstars. S*** Travis Scott too and maaaaaybe Future & Tyler.
Taylor Swift too
Unless you mean new artists. I think Mk.gee can honestly reach superstar status.
Part of the problem is social media, streaming platforms and the era of the short attention span. There’s also just so many different music and artists out right now that niche groups of people can get a taste of whatever they like.

he was on a redemption arc before he died. he was not tryna be an edge lord forever
You cant redeem yourself from what he did

he would be still bigger than every rapper now. which is what this thread is about
As a huge Drake fan X was not going to be a mainstream superstar, woulda still been huge tho
He would have been!
