It's because since 2020ish, entertainment has become incredibly segmented. People are curating their own lives.

With no monoculture, everyone just sticks to what they know and like, and don't venture to grab anything new and no artist, not even Drake or T Swift is immune to this.

This phenomenon has impacted all forms of entertainment. Film, Nightlife you name it.

You need monoculture and societal conditioning to trick...I mean convince the people to buy into something. As our lives become our own curated playlist, that conditioning can't occur.

Also of note, every year people stream music more and more so naturally sales are going to go down and that's part of why sales and 1st week numbers are pretty archaic.

  • this again

  • People stream an album a couple of times, pick the songs they like and move on.

That doesn't count as an album sale, but that's how most people consume music today.

So like, saying so and so's first weeks sales aren't what they used to be is silly because...duh?

  • nothing coming out has staying power, and there’s been no larger adopted evolution since 2020. its hard to care about

  • also music sales are never gonna be what they were with streaming services. that’s just been priced out of ever happening

  • because its Q1

In the middle of all this Ak stuff.

Someone brought up a point how Rappers aren't even doing the same numbers they were doing 5 years ago.

Even Artist's like Drake numbers have all been trending down. That streamers have a stronger hold on the youth than rappers right now.

The kids look up too and f*** with Streamers more than Rappers. That's why Rappers thirsty to get the streamer co-sign.

That Hip Hop ain't really hitting the same and is on a overall downtrend.

    Why you think that is?

Music not as good. But other rappers sales are up like Tyler cause people like the music.

Must be quite a feeling to drop an album, get 10s of million to 100s of millions of views across all platforms, receive the same check you were receiving from the label for your residuals like Russ + the new album now

Then get online and niggas tell you that you’re a flop boy I tell ya
