Not looking good on the 10/23 front
To OP’s question: it’s hard to tell how consumption will continue to evolve over time. If streaming continues as the dominant method of consumption, which I think in all likelihood it will for the foreseeable future, then individual tracks are going to remain dominant.
Believe motherfucker this is our last hope
artist are no longer inspired. especially in the rap and pop genre
producers are no longer inspired. Who's popular? Ok lets copy it.
We already had guys like Logic and YG doing Kendrick style concept projects on their debut albums, yet neither despite doing good numbers ended as critically acclaimed as GKMC despite doing a similar formula.
That also speaks for kendrick's talent level. He was able to reach heights those two couldn't. Aside from that they've had great careers following that formula and we've gotten some great music from both.
Travis, The Weeknd, Drake(he can still sell albums), and Kendrick still make albums that people will listen to all the way through. The newer artists tend to care more about streaming numbers and getting their singles to debut in the top 10 even if they fall off. What these newer artists don’t realize is that’s not a way to build a dedicated fan base. They generally have an expiration on their careers.
All it takes is one "cool" artist to make a good classic project then everyone else will follow
Todays climate is just sheep riding waves and trends, that goes for all popular culture.
No hate either, but its just fax.
Apple Music and Spotify beg to differ
true
dont even get what this is in response to its like a whole abundance of great albums the only problem is the time to listen to them. how u actively log in to a music forum to complain about a thing like this instead of finding new music is nuts
nope. that's why I don't take guys like Jay E or Kendrick for granted when we get something from them
the guys with one listenable album between them ?

Playboi Carti will be the one, he just needs to drop
Tbh Savage Mode 2 might be a classic soon...
In terms of albums it was very nicely sequenced and arranged, seemed very cohesive.
It’s just not how people listen to music now. It’s so easy to just throw songs on a playlist or check for playlists that sites put together over the artist page themselves even. It’s not that there isn’t tons of quality being put out but there just aren’t going to be a ton of projects really put together with an album state of mind.
i find that a lot of the street rappers care more about the singles than an album, could also be that most of them i cant listen to though
but i think a lot of newer age rappers do drop quality albums (carti, thug, etc.)
they dont follow the kendrick formula but they seem to be able to capture an era and style for each project which is nice to listen back to
