I feel him in the sense that he doesn’t want to say f*** boy in class and would rather not hear f*** boy during class
Bet this teacher wouldn’t ask a white kid named Chase D*** to change his name even tho it sounds like chase d*** in English
the pho at pho king is f***ing good tho
She could’ve just explained the correct pronunciation instead of jumping to 3rd base too
She never even attempted to correct him on that
then he should have asked how to pronounce it instead of assuming and asking her to anglicize it which is offensive AF. If someone disrespected my culture like that straight off the bat I would just not want to deal with them too
just say you don’t want to Anglicize your name and move on Why’d he have to bring in filing a complaint
Because its unnacceptable to ask people to change their name
"Hey do you have a middle name? I'm worried about calling a student something that sounds like an insult in English."
Dude really whiffed here
Yeah this professor could have avoided all this nonsense by explaining it reasonably
I would be offended if I was her too, but if I was the professor I'd just have fun with her name lmao.
But he didn’t say he didn’t realise it was a Vietnamese name, just that it was a common name.
I can’t tell if you can’t read or ur just a troll
if he can’t tell it’s a common name then clearly he doesn’t know that it’s a foreign name. i think you are also being wilfully obtuse.
it’s like a vietnamese person saying “oh i met someone called john, i didn’t know it was a common name”
Wait so is that how it’s actually pronounced? Or jus looks like that in English pronunciation and has a different proper Vietnamese pronunciation?
I think that the correct pronunciation is Fook Boo (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
There's no English pronunciation. The name is Vietnamese so it is what it is and the professor is an absolute moron.
this hilarious tho ngl
I had to do this in kindergarten lmao, the thing is my name isn't even difficult to pronounce in english. I never really gave it much thought till recently how its weird that a random old woman effectively changed my name

I really don’t get that first sentence at all - recognising a name as being foreign isn’t the same thing as knowing if that name is common in its country of origin?
phuc bui is crazy tho

and that’s what makes him and you uncultured. if you are aware of certain languages/countries you’d be aware that multiple people will have either the same first name or surname.
if you don’t know the origins of the name (or country) then you likely wouldn’t be aware whether it is or isn’t a common name.
if you are someone that enjoys learning then it’s only small trivia. you can chalk up my initial post to the first guy as just being mean for no reason or trolling but there’s still truth to it
Mf acting like he sees the name name Phuc Boi everyday
@KELYE really be arguing just to argue lol
@KELYE really be arguing just to argue lol
lmaoo no i just said it
