and that’s what makes him and you uncultured. if you are aware of certain languages/countries you’d be aware that multiple people will have either the same first name or surname.
if you don’t know the origins of the name (or country) then you likely wouldn’t be aware whether it is or isn’t a common name.
if you are someone that enjoys learning then it’s only small trivia. you can chalk up my initial post to the first guy as just being mean for no reason or trolling but there’s still truth to it
eh I still think you’re pulling together unrelated points and treating them as the same.
I don’t think the original commenter was saying he assumed the Phuc Bui he met was the only one in the world, he just didn’t realise it was common.
I recognised the name as Vietnamese, but there’s a tiny Vietnamese population in my country, the culture has made no broad impact and there are very few, if any, high profile Vietnamese people. So ur example earlier, if a Vietnamese person had this little contact with Americans / American culture (or Western in general) how would they determine whether or not John was a common name, or as common as say Nayvadius?
So likewise my baby name comment, obv intended to be silly but kinda true - for me to be able to determine how common a name is in Vietnam I’d probably have to do research of that nature lol.
I don’t know whether your comment was intended to be trolling, it just seems silly to me - feel like it would almost be like saying someone was uncultured for not understanding some basic Vietnamese phrases.
But all told don’t really see us seeing eye to eye on this 🤷🏻♂️
