Hip-Hop is dying but the catch is, is that it isn't just Hip-Hop.

All genres of entertainment are dying.

I do agree with this somewhat.

I wouldn't say dying but things are definitely changing

    No it's dying.

Everything is segmented, fragmented. There is no monoculture to galvanize things on a grand scale, which is essential for film, television, music, etc.

without it, everyone just lives in their own bubble, curating their own lives and if everyone is doing that...how can new Hip-Hop acts break through? How can new actors break through? This is why non franchise films are in danger, and why no one goes to the movies anymore. This is why new artists flop all the damn time now, etc.

Like I always say when ppl bring this up.

Is that a good or a bad thing? Seems like there are positives and negatives to both approaches of entertainment.

I personally lean more towards things being fragmented. I like curating my forms of entertainment

  • Let it retreat from the mainstream and stop caring about sales. It can be hard for a genre to adapt when it’s at the top

    For me personally? It's great.

But I think, people vastly underrated how much they didn't and DON'T want autonomy with their entertainment.

The entertainment we loved growing up was via conditioning. We didn't have a choice. Humans don't like the responsibility of having to curate their own lives as much one would think. That's a primary reason why the record business even exist because they can force-feed you an act, you end up liking it, boom profit. That's simply not the case anymore.

But me personally I'm with you. I'm a playlist addict when it comes to music I listen to. I only listen to music from playlists I create.

Just let hip hop die from mainstream. It doesn't hurt the art form. Good raps will always be there. Mainstream just made hip hop a little more like pop, which is not a bad thing but the art of rap just got diluted a bit. Hip Hop accepted too many Jake Paulers instead of Mike Tysons

Should’ve been splintered over a decade ago like pop and rock did
