In an interview last week Common summed it up nicely. He said early 2000’s Ye took the heart and soul of hip-hip and made it palatable to the masses. This is Kanye’s great legacy if we’re being honest.

https://twitter.com/mumagainstvapes/status/1375702011509833728I don’t keep up with white rappers, I’m guessing this is how they be like?
Lowkey tho @op just made a s*** on kanye fans thread. Either that or he truly didnt really think deeper about this because this phenomenon has been a thing in rap since the early 90s
not even that mid to late 80s there was rappers was selling out like chuck d or hammer lol. i mean vanilla ice was a thing and they wanna act like ye the one who responsible for this
Your saying Kanye brought in racist hip hop fans?
Who are these racist hip hop fans?
You know Kanye is black right ?
as phenomenal as kanye himself is, this is true. kanye is one of the greats but take one look at his current fanbase and you'll see exactly what @op is talking about
kanye's fanbase has reached the level of early-2010s eminem fans. the same way em stans used to hate on anything that wasn't an old head rapping at 100mph over edm beats, new kanye fans will turn their nose up at any hiphop song that doesn't have 3 beat switches and a 2-minute guitar interlude
it's sad and a convo needs to be had about the influence that some of our more recent stars have had on fans of the genre. this applies to drake, tyler, j cole, and kendrick too
I don’t keep up with white rappers, I’m guessing this is how they be like?
From what I've seen there are a few main types, 'crazy psycho' Em wannabes, 'not like other rappers' comedy guys like the one in the tweet, spiritual lyrical miracle individuals, and rappers like Mac Miller (and Jack Harlow tbh) who try to be good at what they do and respect the culture without being like 'can you believe I'm a WHITE guy?' every 5 minutes
I know exactly what OP means. Similar to Eminem, or any white rapper for that matter, he has the “I don’t like rap but I like Kanye” fans on lock. A lot of ktt rap history knowledge begins at college dropout and beyond.

A ton of Ye stans are Carti and Thug fans. This doesn't hold up lol

Anyone in GOAT convo is gonna have this same energy. Most of the time, the pinnacle of a medium transcends preference/interest in the particular medium. Happens in video games. Happens in sports. Happens in music. This isn't unique to hip hop. People don't f*** with prog-rock but f*** with Pink Floyd. People don't f*** with JRPGs but f*** with Final Fantasy/Chrono Trigger.
This is double for Kanye who merges so many different lanes.

carti fans are in the same boat and a sizeable portion of thugs fanbase since 2016 aswell

How? Carti doesn't make the s*** you just described, "turn their nose up at any hiphop song that doesn't have 3 beat switches and a 2-minute guitar interlude." Neither does Thug lol. These 3 artists are/were in their own lane. People who are in their own lane are gonna have a loud fanbase claiming that anyone who isn't comparatively unique sucks. That's just how s*** goes
Every popular rapper on billboard caters to cacs and non-black people.
More left field artists in rap bring in some elitist opinions of course, but let's not act like it causes a downfall in rap lol.
A real problem is when some white users here try painting some of those artists as c***music when it's made by black artists lol

omg. it's hyperbole man

I think my point is that Carti makes the exact type of music that runs contrary to the whole "artsy" s*** that is the thesis of this entire thread, yet he has a lot of fan crossover with Ye.
