you either do it for the art or for the attention. it’s a one-or-the-other type thing.

I mean not really, you need both. Does Eminem not respect the art because of his joking songs? Does Kendrick not? Does cole not? the list goes on man, all of these artists have done things for attention and made less than serious songs. It's not disrespectful

    Not even outkast ?

And I heard a lot of "pac isn't like other rappers, he talks bout real s***" etc type comments

nah like even if someone likes kast they didn’t become rap fans because of kast with kanye people became fans of the genre because of him and then go around trying to police it .

With pac that’s mostly people who also don’t really take part in the culture

u right and it does kinda irk u to see some of those same c***nerd fans speak on hiphop like they know wtf they talking about

At LP2 had some guy try to convince me “Jail” wasn’t the song with Jay Z and that it was called Heaven and Hell

Kanye literally said jail 50 times on that song

Put Keef on Hold My Liquor

i’m gonna stop you right there. you just tried to claim Kanye out Jay Z on. you’re clearly who op was talking about.

the point is that kanye fans tend to be these hipsters that are snobs to anything that isn’t “out of the box” or “experimental”

this throws dirt on literally tons of fantastic albums that have came out in the genre just because it doesn’t sound edgy or different enough to fit their pretentious taste’s sensibilities

I agree with you and OP, don't get me wrong. There is a ton of snobbery in that crowd. I'm just asking what the alternative is. Because I'm not existing in a universe where those tracks don't exist.

Like, if Drake decided, out of the blue, to make a track with Yves Tumor, are we really gonna say that's a net negative to hip-hop, just because it might bring the wrong crowd?

This isn't even my convo to be having anyway, I'm just putting thoughts out.

lol OutKast 100% brought new people into the genre, we’re just too many years removed from their time for these people to understand

of course not, but it should be made known that lots of these fans that find hip hop through publications or critics, or cross fertilization (like bringing drake and yves together) are not going to have the best interests’ of the genre in mind

this doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t happen, but it does mean we need to realize not everyone’s opinions are as valid as the others if we’re having a serious discussion
