Very reminiscent of Jesus Is King and how he neutered JIK in the days coming up to the release by cutting too much versus having somebody in the studio to put their foot down and convincing him to go through with some of the songs that ended up being iconic on Yeezus

Well they became a part of jik2 with dre (dropping never)

I really wish he had somebody like Virgil by his side again.

I feel like Virgil gave him lots of direction. A lot of people around Kanye right now, while they are very talented, are very young and don't have the guts to tell him that this s*** needs to be released. On the other hand, some of the older heads around him like Bu or Cons don't have the artistic vision like Virgil did to really give an opinion.

I believe that's why Kanye is sitting on too many unreleased projects.

Bro is virgil really all that? Look at the clothes he makes , nothing groundbreaking there

He just has the hypebeasts on his d***

    Like what

just making a comparison to Mike Dean fighting to keep HML whereas on JIK we get dumb moves like cutting Jesus Is Lord to a minute long song or taking out Up From The Ashes

Thd album had to be 21:11 or whatever long exactly, to fit a bible verse

I don't love his work but he's focused and his releases are organized and I feel that that's what Kanye lacks since Virgil left.

Don't get me wrong though, Kanye has always been disorganized. But I believe Virgil at least kind of kept him somewhat grounded. I also believe that Virgil has a good palette and is at least capable of holding an artistic vision together to push Kanye to the finish line if that makes sense

Hold My Liquor and Black Skinhead aren't on there because they don't contain any credited samples. Not sure about On Sight but my guess would be that the choir sample break in the middle was either a last minute addition after they already created the sticker, or wasn't cleared until after (Kanye didn't finish the album until June 10th, 4 days before it leaked)

hold my liquor was a last minute addition - said by kanye on yeezus listening party

blood on the leaves was the first track of the album - confirmed by kanye on Zane Lowe

on sight was the last track kanye wrote - just because he decided last minute he didn't want blood on the leaves as the intro

there were various reports at the time kanye only wanted a 7 track album , than made it 9 and finally added hold my liquor and made it 10

why is the tracklist in a completely different order than ?

b**** ass acting like he's a smart guy ( you're probably half right tho , that sample s*** makes some sense )

There's no way to prove that Hold my Liquor was a last minute addition. All we know is at one point during the process of making the album, the track wasn't on it until he was convinced to add it. What you infer from that is that it must've been a last minute addition, you can't prove that.

Sure Kanye wanted Blood on the Leaves to be the first track, but track order doesn't mean much.

There are no reports anywhere suggesting Kanye wanted Yeezus to be a short album. In fact, the only thing I found about that subject at all is a Reddit post where apparently Kanye wanted the album to be 16 tracks long until Rick Rubin convinced him to shorten the album. But, that post is also filled with false information so we probably shouldn't look at that as a valid source.

The same goes for the On Sight thing, considering the albums lyrics it's probably likely it was the last song that he wrote on and decided to make it the intro, but I can't find anything that says that's actually true. And that doesn't mean that the instrumental itself wasn't intended for the album, Daft Punk were the first people Kanye went to when he started making Yeezus.

Black Skinhead was ALWAYS meant to be on the album, it was premiered on SNL, Kanye promoted the song in Tweets on Twitter (even more than New Slaves) and work on the music video started in January of 2013.

You already said I was half right with the samples, which means what we're really arguing about is simply track order, which I'll give to you... and that's pretty old news anyway.

Now, the artwork itself: The original artwork with the stretched face was replaced with the no artwork on May 28th, but they were only physically made in the final days before the album was turned in, confirmed by an Instagram post from Virgil on June 9th (the same day the album was finished). That sticker on the back wasn't made for some version of the album that we never got except for maybe track order, it was made for the 10 tracks that we got.

you're writing full school essays and s*** chill , its not that serious , and yes if you search for it hold my liquor was a last minute addition , mike dean said it himself a long time ago don't remember where

and we're acting like this is the first time kanye performs singles that are not on the album ? only one, all day , I love it would all like to talk to you

"track order doesn't mean much" - acting like the way tracks are sequenced can't make or break an album

just because you write a full essay doesn't make you right, I bet you're one of those 5G covid type dudes

Black Skinhead is different. Kanye dedicated almost 6 months of his life to the song before even debuting it on SNL. Every song you mentioned was after Kanye became less reliable and were made for albums that never ended up coming out. Black Skinhead was premiered for an album that Kanye did release just a month later.

Track order obviously does matter but we're more so talking about the number.

But I agree, we should prob just drop it. We're never really gonna know and I've dedicated way too much of my morning to this.

Nah, probably more like 12-18 months but you're right, obviously a lot of time was dedicated to the song. Still, the album that it was meant for never dropped and it turned into something different.

regardless if you agree with julian's opinions, i think they represent the diversity of this website, as one vocal end of a spectrum in terms of takes, and there are others on the ends of other spectrums in terms of takes on here such that when they interact, it makes for an entertaining conversation. i think ktt2 would be a bit boring if everybody always had the same takes and agreed with each other on everything music-wise. no matter how much i disagree with julian’s posts, i consider julian one of the staple posters on here
