Need recommendations for a good bonsai and where to get one?
My girl wants one
go to every walmart home depot type spot that has a greenhouse or garden section with plants in your area, they'll probably have couple year old trees already in pots that look pretty nice. i'd suggest buying one of those and cleaning up the leaves and branches with some sharp scissors - make it look nice and ur good to go
if u wanna bonsai your own tree you gotta find or buy "raw material" essentially just a baby tree lol. lots of tutorials online on how to bonsai any tree/plant you can imagine
Sup boys
I’m in Colorado for the week so I left the boy outside where he can get some water. Shouldn’t be too cold at home this week so I think he’ll be good
I’m out here with my cousins, they’re about to buy a farm and are looking into crops to grow.. i sneakily suggested a corner for juniper saplings

Please give updates on the little one when you get home ☺️
Alright boys here’s the rundown. It seams Mr Applesauce caught the rona while I was away bc when I came home his long luscious top branch had begun to show browning needles. This is most likely because I left him in a spot that gets a lot of direct sunlight and it didn’t rain enough that week to balance it out so he got cooked. Options are: prune to behind the browning needles and continue his life as a midget tree — the amount I’d have to cut off would take 1-2 years of progress off the trunk which is disappointing but not like I cultivated it so whatever; OR, remove his wires and plant him in the ground somewhere to become a still small but real and acclimated tree. Take your vote

@Ellinia BAN
listen man its not like i can ask someone to come to my crib and water my tree when it needs water. the rate at which the soil gets dry is unpredictable and you water trees based on the felling the moistness of the soil; every few days usually. i saturated the soil when i left for colorado, with some fertilizer for good measure, but that week just decided to be all sun no rain.
anyway he is far from dead. he is still very much alive and has many lush needles remaining. just a matter of how to approach his 4th grow cycle this spring

One of my plants died last week and I still can't process it. I deserve a ban too I killed it

sorry for ur loss mod
The boy is looking healthy once more. Do I leave the top of the trunk bare in hopes that it buds more needles or just cut it and make it look pretty?
howdy brothers, lil update:
been digging deeper and deeper into bonsai and botany as a whole, i've had two large succulent plants for about 3 months now and i'm thinking about breaking off some "leaves" and propagating plants from them. looks really easy.
Mr Applesauce is alive and well, no further brown needles to be seen. haven't shaved off the excess trunk up top i'm just gonna let it grow. might look cooler than it did when i made him.
quarantine has pushed me to go on little hikes thru the woods around where i live and there's a (protected) marsh land and some cool mossy rocks above them really close to me. there's a species of really cool looking conifers grow there. one sapling in particular looks maybe 8 or 9 years old and is taking an amazing natural shape... pretty sure its illegal to smuggle a tree out of state protected land.......... but like....... imagine.... tree heist
or i could just clip one branch and propagate from it. but that takes a long time.
thoughts?

Tree heist sounds awesome
But clip a branch and bring new life into the world
It may take a long time but the fulfilling journey is it’s own reward
Glad to hear about Mr. Applesauce
I only have four succulents, and I've always wanted a bonsai but I live in an apartment:( and it looks pretty hard to maintain damn.
Also op say hi to mr applesauce

They’re not that hard to maintain honestly. Once a tree is strong enough and the weather is nice you can pretty much leave them to their own devices outside, as long as they have access to water and good but indirect sunlight they’ll be happy!
@Yolko get a banana slug so they can be friends
