    Trash album

Since when are we using Grammys as a measure of quality lol

That's exactly my point. Only Eminem can win a grammy with garbage like Recovery or MMLP2, showing that he still ultra relevant on the music scenario

  • Jun 25, 2020

The brand of Eminem far outweighs his abilities as a musician, which is why whenever we see threads like these, it's always numbers this, relevancy that, yet nobody wants to talk about the 6 back to back trash to severely mid albums he's dropped since... clearly signifying his fall off/musical stagnation.

But yes please remind us of what he did in 2002... or that he's 20+ years into his career and is still commercially relevant... might help make the music he's releasing now sound better

@DonutHole he actually thinks joyner lucas makes good music, he listed him in his top 10 dead of alive

He just doesn't want to acknowledge that most of his "students" lack self-awareness , he doesn't want to take the L for supporting him that's why he caps for Joyner.

White privilege, the industry has been sucking off Eminem for the longest and he is a poster boy for Caucasian, worldwide non rap fans who don't listen to rap, yet still know and love him!

Means little to nothing given what he has gotten away with, yet we crucify black rappers for far less

Who gives af about a grammy anyway? They not the culture. They just old folk picking Eminem because of his name. How is winning an award with something you even admit is mid af supposed to show us how great Em is? It only shows how stupid s*** like the grammys are

I respect him for the things he's done in the past, but he's been trash for a big while now and the only thing y'all Em stans seem to bring up is s*** like him doing numbers still. Who cares, it's mainly by people who are not even into hiphop but who listen to Eminem because he's a big name that raps fast wooooow

  • Jun 25, 2020

Ok just peeped and Lil B is in your most listened artists not finna go in on you OP u good in my books. Eminem still trash tho

My answers aren't going to be super long like yours because english isn't my native, but I appreciate your effort ITT. Let me try to reply some of it:

"The "hate" = people finding him overrated, his corny sometimes racist/homophobic/mysoginistic fans only acknowledging him as a top tier rapper, his corny lyrics, his devolution in music quality but ego stayed the same"

You can put him out of your top 50 if you want, but I can't see how his rap abilities can be seen as "overrated", from a technical point of view and understanding what RAPPING means, they are perfect, maybe his controversial lyrics put the attention kinda away. And you say "racist/homophobic/mysoginistic fans only" with a derogatory tone, but what is the difference between his songs or GTA or A Clockwork Orange? It's just art, it's fiction, it's not meant to be true.

"(sold out after relapse, admitted that he sold out on that song with Joyner Lucas, who the f*** liked shameless sellouts)"
Yeah I hate this on him too, that's why I only listen to his discog until Relapse

"A better contender for n*3 would ne nas who's debut album is amongst the 4 only hip hop albums archived by Harvard (eminem isn't in there sorry)" - "No, the culture choses who they want to uplift, you skipped nas, jay z, outkast, pimp c, Kurupt, Lauryn hill, lil kim, mc lyte, wutang, a tribe called quest, queen Latifah ... to uplift eminem."

To claim that Eminem is the 3rd place I'm not relying on being a good artist/having good projects only (what Eminem for sure has). I'm putting mainstream relevance, longevity and recognition from the general public. Of course that those artists you mentioned are AMAZING and have their importance as well. Illmatic is my #2 album of all time, while my highest raked Eminem one is on top 40, no problems about that, but when comes to the public in general, Pimp C, Kurupt, Mc Lyte and even Lil Kim, has very low to no relevance, but never disrespecting their importance in music

I respect your opinion but my overall point was that the general public he pander to isn't in tune with hip hop/black culture. He's a legend and relevant to white America and whitewashed mainstream media (that's broadcasted to the entire world) not because he changed rap music (technique wise) and not because hens had some cultural relevance (outside the controversy that faired well in the early 200p due to celebrity culture).
his sales are justified because of his major cross over appeal.
The "racisme/mysoginy/homophobia from his fans" remark comes from how some of them (a minority perhaps) acts on social media :if they are you don't like eminem you're black (sometimes they'll call you the n word and justify it), a s*** that doesn't know anything about hip hop or a sensitive f word.

I agree I think most of us consider Eminem more of a pop star rather than a famous rapper. For what you said and also because his style is so different from mainstream trap

Idk why but the Eminem hate is super strong after this forum became KTT2. This man is relevant for hip hop and music in general for literally 20+ years, everything he does goes super viral, still selling and making numbers as f*** and it seems to still bother a lot of other artists. Eminem went through any kind of music consumption and reached top tier levels in all of them: mtv, cds, mp3, youtube, spotify etc etc

He will be the one to be put after Big and Pac in a legends top 3 and not some clown ass rapper that just came out yesterday and y'all praise like f***. We should be grateful that we can live in the same era as a living legend like Eminem

Nobody denies his influence, but rather are critical of the quality of his work.

I dont enjoy eminems music from the past decade but seeing people say he was never good at rapping is a pleb filter

This is just hate lol. Still doesn’t erase what he did in his prime. Every way you wanna judge it he has to be at least top 5-10 oat regardless if you like revival or not.

you can’t just pretend certain albums in an artist’s discog don’t exist when considering that artist for a top spot. everything he’s dropped since MMLP2 is so bad, when it averages out with what he dropped in his prime, his discog as a whole is below average. i guess he’s a top tier TECHNICAL rapper, but i don’t know anyone who doesn’t wear camo & drink mountain dew who cares about that more than the ability to make listenable/meaningful music. when Em tries too hard to be technically great, all he raps about is how good he is at rapping. there’s no substance in that, and he’s been doing it for over a decade.

People dismiss legendary artists lows and focus on the highs literally all the time. WTF are you talking about dude?

well that’s hypocritical of those people then

although, imo, it’s ok to dismiss an artist’s early work from before they really mastered their style when considering their discogs. but the most recent work should almost always be included, as long as the artist doesn’t make it clear that they no longer care & are just putting s*** out bc they’re bored like with Snoop. and Em’s made it very clear that he still cares about rapping very much, so if he’s putting in actual effort to make what he’s been releasing these last few albums.......... :yikes:

No one cares dude. We acknowledge hes passed his prime. No ones taking away from Shaqs legacy because of his post Miami career.

Theres like 2 acts total in hip hop whove been in the game with over 5 or more albums and have never missed

i’m also just not sure how one can consider themselves a fan of a rapper whose biggest album revolves around killing his mom, r*ping his (ex) wife, a bunch of homophobic slurs, and various other shock-value themes that not even the edgiest 14 year old could top
