yes but its literally just because he cares for his family/friends more than himself, its just that simple

Im pretty confident that whenever PUNK drops it will be a return to form and we will see the creative side of Thug again

Thug is something of an enigma. He can afford to take a few years out to help his labelmates because when he puts his mind to it there is nobody that can do what he does.

My only hope is he's using those YSL projects as an outlet to release his generic less expiremental stuff and saving his unique stuff for his own project. If his next bunch of solos is anything like what he's been doing with YSL then that's then I guess. It was a great run.

But you’ve just echoed what I initially said…

I agree with your point about SMF - it was just a commercial vehicle for him yeah.

I’m sure YSL is a money machine, but my broader point is that it’s a shame it is restricting us of solo Thug output when he is by far the most enigmatic artist on the roster.

No entitlement here, you’re projecting. After Barter 6 the two solo mixtapes were brief at 8 & 9 tracks respectively. Jeffery was short as well. BTG was a proper outing. But since then have we too often found his voice obfuscated by other guests on his projects. No artist owes anyone music really, all I’m saying is it’s a shame he focused his efforts on those around him rather than himself

It’s not a shame at all, there’s a gazillion “creative “ Thug songs out there, half his career has leaked. I’d also love for more of them to be nicely packaged and handed to me as projects.

He also said he’s gonna return to following his vision with the next project. It’s only So Much Fun that wasn’t cutting edge. Relax

Thats true. They don't all masquerade as objective Critique, though

How tf is that a shame that he focused on others lmao. There are 500 leaks u can go listen to that u prob haven’t heard and will blow your mind. How y’all blaming him for taking care of his family and friends and putting them in position to take care of their families.

I'm not denying how admirable and compassionate it is whatsoever, of course it's a great thing for a label-head to do.

I just wish his approach was more pragmatic, and that we didn't have to wait for him to be the last last drop across YSL's schedule (which is the chronology they are operating under currently I believe).

The leaks point is valid up to a point, of course there are leaks I have missed considering the sheer volume of Thug material that gets leaked. But ultimately, when the average listener looks back in 10 years time, it will be the content up on his official profile that will be judged (which is a shame in of itself I know)

And when the average listener looks back they’ll see his only full solo project post 2017 is SMF which the average listener will see as his best project.

Only non casual listeners will have this view that u have. And if u aren’t casual then u can dig in the leaks and find what u want.

Also it’ll only get worse after he drops his next solo. He will probably temporarily retire after he drops it most likely. But I’ve already made peace with it. He’s given us enough to last a lifetime already.

I feel you on the last part. I'm not as desperate like I used to be years ago about getting new Thug albums. We literally got over 1,500 high quality Thug songs. Literally.

I think all the pump faking disappointments helped me come to terms with it too lol.

don't understand smf slander cus its still hard the way y'all describe it is like young thug fell off a cliff

Up there with his best work imo. it aint even THAT different from his old stuff its just like 30 percent less weird.

  • Jul 9, 2021

Ironically this is the most successful thug has ever been, even as someone who loves what he does, I know he’s in it for the money at this point. He happens to have some genius about him. I could see him abandoning this sound because it’s in his nature, but I could also him sticking with this whole ysl uniform wave until it doesn’t work.

  • Jul 9, 2021

imo Thug hasn't hit for on his projects me since SS3.
Super Slimey was okayish, good standouts.

A lot of words to say nothing of substance. Many So Much Fun songs are as old as your favorite Thug projects.

He purposely curated that album to break through in the mainstream. Now he’s established and can kick back.

YSL is a money machine. Let that man do him.

He fed us for three lifetimes already. Your entitlement is worrying.

the oldest song on So Much Fun was half a year old lol quit talking out your ass

agreed with the rest of your post though
